Ok, who do you want and how much do you think they will cost?

Which of our own guys do you want to resign?

I want Maclin. Hesitant with knee of course. Lions have no luck with guys coming off injuries to produce. He would surely replace Nate IMO. Maclin was due to get nice contract. With injury the dollar amount surely drops. Ginn would be my 2nd choice of WR. I see him getting a few overspenders because of return duties. With Ginn you get rid of Ross who to me takes up a roster spot.

If they bring in a FA WR, they need to do it before OTAs.

I like Cotchery. And I want them to keep Ross. I don't understand why anyone would want to get rid of someone who made plays. I guess the grass is always greener.

And while I'm at it, let me point out that we don't really know what the fuck we have on offense. Mike Thomas signed with the Texans. Watch him tear it up after getting away from Luvmihand.

Maclin actually said today that he is aware that he might have to sign a one year deal due to his injury concern. Even still I have a hard time getting on board with signing him. If he ends up playing well and benefits from having CJ on the opposite side he would be wanting a big contract.

We already have 3 of the top 25 largest NFL contracts on our roster. We just dont have the luxury of one year deals on upside players. I dont want to be heading into 2015 and once again not have a quality #2 on the other side of CJ. I think Ginn makes for a very good signing but we still need to draft that #2 threat. Get Watkins on the other side of CJ and things really change for the offense.

I did not say I wanted him gone. I have no problem with Ross' return abailities. I hate the one trick ponies. The new coach wants to use Ross more on offense great. Ginn would produce in both facets of the game.
Guys love Wendling also, guy had 10 tackles this year as a ST specialist. Why bring him back to vet min. salary?? Someone here will say resign him.

I like an Eagles WR, but not Maclin. Riley Cooper is a big tall white guy and the Lions love those types. He'd fit in great w Calvin, Fauria and Durham adding to an already towering cast of WR's.

TE Jimmy Graham. Calvin and Jimmy Graham on the same field? Not sure how much it would cost but TE's usually don't break the bank. I'm sure he'll resign w the Saints but he is a FA and it can't hurt to talk to him.

RT Michael Oher. Here's a chance to finally get a guy all Lions fans want. He's not that great, but probably better than what he have now.

One of these Centers -

C Evan Dietrich-Smith. The guy who Suh stomped knows the division well.

C Rich Ohrnberger, C. Back up in SD. Seems realistic we bring him on over.

C Alex Mack. Arguably the top C in the league is a FA at the right time for the Lions.

I would love to get Ward or DRC for the secondary. DRC would be my top target. Looking at it, Im not sure I like any of the Wrs that much over a top 10 prospect. Ginn is pretty washed up these days, Maclin, Britt and Nicks all have issues. Im on board with a center too.

I make the following assumptions:

contract restructuring will allow the Lions to sign their rookies and to re-sign the following guys, with $12MM in cap room left over:

Joicque Bell
Brandon Pettigrew (not great, but good enough)
Willie Young (can never have enough pass rushers)
Rashean Mathis
Andre Fluellen (you need cheap rotation guys, so what the hell)
Shaun Hill

Then, with $12MM in cap space I want:
Eugene Monroe
Donte Whitner if San Fran won't pay him
Adam Vinatieri
2-3 veteran min guys to provide DL, WR, and secondary depth.

We'll have to draft a WR with the #10 pick, a C in the second round, and depth elsewhere, but Monroe was pretty good in Baltimore last year and Whitner was much better in coverage in San Fran.

I could live with letting Hill go and drafting a kid in the fifth or later, then signing a $1MM back-up. If Staff goes down we ain't winning anyways, so you only really need a guy who can give you a series or two if the starter is shaken up.

I am worried, though, that there are some teams with cap money to burn and the decent FAs will get overpaid. In that case, sit tight, re-sign your guys and even think about front-loading the cap hit on a contract now (like the Bears...ugh...wisely did with Cuntler), and improve through the draft.

DRC played the last two years under a deal averaging $5m/year. Want to know who also plays for a deal averaging $5m/yr? Chris "Toast" Houston does. That pisses me off cause we cant get away from that contract at this time and DRC would be an enormous improvement.

It's going to take some creative cap mgmt to work in impact FA's. There is some room, I'm just not confident Millenhew and LewanDUI are smart enough to make it happen.

I was reading about him and he grades out top 10 in league. Most had him avg. 5th best. He would be my pick of three you mentioned.

At some point Ravoli being replaced needs to be adressed. FA or draft or signing him for one more year. Can he produce at 2013 level again???

Michael Oher is shitty. One of the most overrated players in all of sports. (Couldnt hang as on "the blindside" isnt good at RT either)It's Michael Lewis' fault. Same reason people think Billy Bean is soooo great as a baseball GM.

I don't see a need at RT. I like the core they have. This season the line was very young. Experience and continuity will Only help them improve.

Nah, let's get someone to replace Waddle. You know the UDFA who played pretty damn good. Then we can constantly talk of the Lions not getting late round talent and grooming guys to play!!

It's equally as important that we pay more $ to someone else. The contract of a UDFA is way to cheap. Let's find a more costly player without upside. That's a better fit for the way we do things.

Wait, are you saying if there is a movie don't believe the hype? All this time I thought Keanu Reeves lead a team to the playoffs.

Enough of the over-hyped oft-injured players as we have seen Mayhew draft plenty of them. I agree with re-signing Joique Bell but Pettipoops can be replaced by last years draft TE Mike Williams who is as good, if not better at blocking than pettipoops and has better hands than him. Williams, playing under Saban's pro-style offense, is more than adept as a red-zone or even down field receiver. He broke his hand in training camp and is another draftee awaiting his opportunity to show his skill-set.

FA's like Maclin, Oher (shitty is a compliment for him), DRC, Talib, Mack, Dietrich-Smith, Graham only reek of desperation signings. Smart teams build through the draft not FA signings that are too costly down the road which inhibits growth and depth. If we were one or two players away from BEING in the playoffs for consecutive years or truly vying for next years Super Bowl, without question (meaning quit being a fan and having wishful thinking because you're too blind to know the truth) then you pull the trigger on those FA signings without laying out a shitload of guaranteed money.

Drafting Sammy Watkins would be great, if he's available, but he's not the savior should Stafford still remain like he is right now. Hiring an Offensive WHIZ doesn't GUARANTEE Stafford will progress either.

When was the last time Mayhew actually did something smart, like trade down once or twice in the 1st round, garnering an additional 2nd and 3rd round pick by doing that, which can lead to more/better prospects. NEVER... He repeatedly makes mistakes by drafting injured players (Best, T. Young, Broyles) when those 2nd rounder's need to be counted on as long term starters. All Draft Prospects are Suspects until proven. Odell Beckham Jr. is nearly similar to Watkins and he could be had in the second round if not in the 3rd round. It's a wasted pick, Watkins, IF Stafford doesn't improve in a huge way because he'll overthrow, underthrow or throw behind him like all the other receivers. BTW, I'm a huge fan of Watkins but I hate Stafford's mentality.

And you can get a UDFA PK or use a 7th round pick for one.
