BTW can I ask? Why are you adding 2 mil to Lee's base salary for 14?
Would 2013 to 2019 mean the Signing bonus would be spread over 7 years? If so that should be 1.43 mil not two. Or do I have that wrong?

Manster.. thats the rub. 2014, even if they carry $7.5 million over, the best you can expect the cap to be is $130. So lets shoot high. $130-$150= negative $20. Add in $7.5 (and Im seeing $6.1 actually) and that leaves you at a negative $12.5 million against the cap. Cant see Dez costing less than $3 million against the cap on an extention and Im being kind there. So once again negative $15.5. So you got to clear $15.5 million to keep Dez, this doesnt account for free agents, rookies, Murry or Smith. Its going to be hard not pushing more money into 2015. And that doesnt even account for the fact that as of now you are already committed to $141 in 2015. I think 2015 is a break even year for Dallas... maybe.

All I know is every year the media and fans of other teams say this is the year the Cap kills Dallas chances of signing this or that player, every time Jerry and Stephen find a way to shuffle the deck and get their guy(s) signed. I can see Murray being a cap casualty, but not Dex or Tyron.

lee counts .63 mil (plus bonus) this year. up to 7+ mil next year then drops again. Next year we sign Dez. Which we make Dez's base salary down near the bottom (Like Lee this year) which between the two counters Lee's Higher cap value for 2014. Then Lee's drops down & that counters Dez's cap value for 2015. I feel okay with that.

Bryants cap number for 2014 is $3.1 million, that includes $1.3 million in bonus which you cant really push. You extend him, give him $10 million in bonus spread over 5 years and that makes his bonus hit alone $2.26 million. Even with a base of $.63 million it puts him at $3 million. But you seriously think your #1 WR is going to sign a deal with only $10 million. Think more like the deal Percey Harvin got from the Sea Hawks. And his cap hit was just under $5 million.

You got that wrong. Signing bonus can only be spread over five years. Here is a look at Lees contract numbers after the new deal. With cap hits for eeach year.

don't get me wrong I don't think he is gonna be cheap, but I don't think they will sign their mega years on the same years either.I know we will rework some guys contracts, that has never been a secret, but it sems we are gaining on the zero level, not losing ground from kicking the can so to speak. I think I read next year we only have (as of right now) like 1.4 mil in dead money. That's the best we've been in a long time. I think contractually we have been heading in the right direction. I think every team (maybe not the bengals LOL) will kick the can a little every year for the most part. its huge no-no's that scare me. I think the Lee signing was a good one & a friendly one to boot. to say lets not sign any of our stars til we reach zero on kicking the can would be a bad move.

Nets what kinda contract does Dez get? Can Jerry make it work and still be able to be competitive? Do we have to likely choose between Dez and Tyron Smith? I know you are not employed by the Cowboys but, you seem to have a solid understanding of the cap.

I've said that we keep Dez, Smith, and Carter who all come due 2015. Murray is the wild card here, depends on his play, health, and how much he wants to be here. This is his prove it year. I would say Dez gets a 8 year extension, thanks Jerry for taking a chance on him, gives him a discount, and signs for 8 years 104MM probably 36MM guaranteed:

Base Bonus Cap Hit
2015 2MM 6MM 8MM
2016 4MM 6MM 10MM
2017 5MM 6MM 11MM
2018 8MM 6MM 14MM
2019 10MM 6MM 16MM
2020 12MM 6MM 18MM
2021 12MM 0MM 12MM
2022 15MM 0MM 15MM

Gives us room at the beginning of the deal and flexibility to restructure in future years with the 7th and 8th years being without guaranteed money. It's more guaranteed money than Calvin got, and is a deal that would not hold us hostage. It's also a bigger average annually than Mike Wallace got 12MM for Wallace and 13MM a year for Dez. Very realistic contract, that by my numbers could work in 2015.

Actually there are only 7 teams currently projected over the cap next year. Of the seven, Dallas has the most money committed to salary of any team in the league.

thanks for the concerns but as I said two months ago....jerry and company are pretty good at this cap think and haven't been caught short yet. That is a skill within itself and the best of all?

all that shock value bull about Lee being a redskin

kinda like this depth thing.....I just don't see it but it's good to know somebody knows what up with all that

Nets.. you realize I would fully endorse this deal for Dez. Some where in the next few years, that visa bill Jerry is running up is going to come due. If Im not mistaken you are some kind of accountant. If you are anything like my accountant, the first thing he tells me is to stop using credit cards. And thats what Jerry is doing.

With the terms you laid out they'd probably guarantee 40M by guaranteeing the first 2 years. They did the same with Romo and now Lee.

That's fine, and I would endorse this deal as well. Let me ask you this though, do you know what the cap will be in 2015 yet alone 2016 what if we see 150 in 2015 and 160 in 2016 or more, will it piss you off that Jerry was able to get away with this? As I always say, we will see, but the better question will be what if RG3 isn't the player you thinks he will be, or even more what if he is and in 3 years when it's time to pay him and Morris do you shell out 200MM for two players over the next 6 years? The cap catches up to everyone eventually, it's all how you manage it though, and we are doing just fine.

my point being I bet there is more than 7 teams that redo someones contract to keep some of their players (or bring in others) Kicking the can, kicking the can

well whatever happens in the next couple years. We signed one of our stars long term, & to me with a cap friendly contract to boot. Not sure anyone is gonna argue that.

Shark, you saw the posts from a few days ago on the Skins ''2014 FA's'' thread. They were talking about the Skins signing Lee next year, when I said there was a 0% chance he played anywhere but Dallas next season. Then I was told we'd have to cut ''7-10 players'' to sign Lee and was shown charts of how dire our situation is, to which I called total BS. Then Lee signs the next day lmao, and do they admit I'm right? NO, it's ''troll, troll''. You're not trolling if you're telling the truth

Honest answer, not really. Because it will also mean that the the team I support is younger and in a better cap situation to boot. As it stands right now Dallas has the highest cap commitment of any team over the next three years. If the cap goes up and Dallas gets out from under, good for them. But in reality I think $150 in 2015 is a stretch since owners will do what ever they can to keep the cap manageable. As for RG3, if he isnt the player we expect him to be, we draft another QB. Because in three years we wont owe him $55 million guaranteed. If he is the guy we expect, a deal like Romo's would be a bargain.
