Are we talking Jerry here or Danny.. :noidea:

Just throwing it out there.

But Jerrys Kids are currently set to count $150 million against the 2014 cap what ever the number is.

Danny's count.... $108 million.

So come march, Jerry will be busy reworking deals to get "his man".
Dan will simple sit back and watch as the Skins basically have the cap space to sign who they want.

Just saying.

But then again this was a thread about dallas and the LB they just resigned... so why bring the Skins into it??

Dude, you are talking five years ago. And again why bring the Skins into this. But Im on the record as saying i wasnt all that hot and bothered about the Skins trying to sign him. Love the contract and the cap gymnastics it will cause for Dallas.

As I said, $20 million or more under the cap beats $20 million or more over the cap any day. :suds:

» Over the Cap- NFL Salary Cap Space 2013

This shows what each team has dedicated to the cap in 2014 so far. This money only counts base salary, signing bonus, and any misc guaranteed money.

Or you could take this one.

Dallas Cowboys - 2014 Salary Cap Breakdown

But they havent accounted for Lee's $7.5 million cap number in 2014 yet.

And what Dallas is doing is basically kicking the can down the road.

Thanks for the links. And yes, I think I was the one that said they were kicking the can down the road, didn't I? Reworking contracts constantly to get under the cap basically ensures you will always have a cap issue. Jerry often seems unable to just cut ties. Free this year was a perfect example. We could have cut him in a cap neutral move and be done with that contract for good, but now it just hangs around even with the restructure. But again, this one isn't the problem unless injury.

Why bring the skins in? Didn't you just bring them in? Plus you are a Skins fan, don't you think if you comment on a Cowboys board it will solicit a Redskin related response?

I think the problem becomes next season. Dallas will still need to resign Dez and Tyron, them boys aint going to be cheap. Being $20 million or more over the cap means you will need to clear about $26 million or more in order to resign both. If Dallas wins the division and goes to the NFC title game, you can justify the move. But if by some chance Dallas goes 8-8, fires Garrett.... it would be hard to justify alot of these moves from a cap standpoint. Jerry aint all in yet, but next year.. its basically for ll the marbles.

Sure.. if I mention the Skins in relation to the topic at hand. But if you havent noticed, I avoid doing that. Sure I will answer it if its brought up by a Cowboys fan. But my original take on this thread I intentionally avoid bring the Skins into it at all.

Both will be signed or one will be franchised. Murray maybe the odd man out & I am fine with that, RB come a dime a dozen & his replacement may already be on the roster :yahoo:

#No worries

Let me just say.. I whole heartedly endorse this plan. Throw in Murry (which I think Jerry will) and I might send Jerry a thank you card.

But the biggest thing with the FA signings and extensions is the year one cap hit will usually be very manageable. It usually starts to hurt with year 2. I am wondering what will happen to the cap in 2015 when the new tv deal is done and also the Direct Tv package goes up for grabs...

Manster... Nets and I actually agree on the numbers and how you can clear space. the only place we disagree is that Dallas will have to pay the piper at some point. Nets has you clearing space by reworking deals, which I expect will have to happen. But I dont expect these guys to simply take pay cuts to help out the team. Players rarely do.

Shark and I do agree completely on the cap, it's our perspectives that differ; and I will never fault him for that. As a skins fan it is his job to pray and think the negative for our team, as a Cowboys fan it is my job to inform and correct him any chance I can, which is what I do. And I will say once again we are not in cap hell and we will keep our core. We will be fine as long as the team drafts well and cuts correctly. So far I am 1-0 when it comes to the cap with this Lee deal. As for us being at 150MM next season ya this is true, but what is also true is that we are carrying 10MM extra into next season as of now, with I expect a little more after final cuts such as Cook saving 1MM on the cap, etc. Time will tell and I am sure that I will be just as right as I have been for the last year or so on the cap. If you have followed me that long you know what I am talking about. I shared the info about Free's pay cut and a lot of other stuff that has been spot on, as for you Shark I'll still say I'm ahead in this cap thing.

I fully expect the cap to go up to around $140 in 2015. However, as i showed you in the other links, dallas is already committed for that amount in 2015. So its a wash at that point.. except for the fact that they will likely have to add $7-10 million onto 2015 in order to get under the 2014 cap, resign Dez and Smith (not to mention Murry) and possibly add some other pieces. this doesnt even begin to address replacing Spencer in 2014 unless some one seriously steps up at the DE spot.

By that time Twill will be replacing Austin, & Scandrick will also be off the books. Jerry & Stephen know what they doing, you over hear worrying about the wrong thing. Shouldn't you be scouring teams roster for a RT cause that guy yall have know makes Free look like a HOFer, and I will not even bring up that suspect secondary..:L

two things Nets... you are carrying $7.5 million next year as Lee's cap number went up a bit with the new deal.

I never expected Dallas to not be able to sign Lee, but did expect the cap hole to get deeper.

Cap hell, no. Cap gymnastics... thats going to be the norm for at least the next year maybe longer.

There you go dragging the Skins back into things. For the record, Polumbus gave up less sacks and penalties than Free. So I guess the HOF has really lowered their standards. I'll give you the secondary for the moment.

Cap gymnastics is a good way to put it. I'm far from knowing as much about the Cap as Nets, Twist, and yourself so maybe I'm completely off my rocker here, but I think if they can get through the 2015 season without too many contract redo's we will be fine from that point forward unless Jerry and Co go on another shopping spree. That is something both of our team will have to fear as long as we have our current owners. They can play it smart for a few years, then see that bright new shinny car they just must have.

lee counts .63 mil (plus bonus) this year. up to 7+ mil next year then drops again. Next year we sign Dez. Which we make Dez's base salary down near the bottom (Like Lee this year) which between the two counters Lee's Higher cap value for 2014. Then Lee's drops down & that counters Dez's cap value for 2015. I feel okay with that.

Manster.. thats the rub. 2014, even if they carry $7.5 million over, the best you can expect the cap to be is $130. So lets shoot high. $130-$150= negative $20. Add in $7.5 (and Im seeing $6.1 actually) and that leaves you at a negative $12.5 million against the cap. Cant see Dez costing less than $3 million against the cap on an extention and Im being kind there. So once again negative $15.5. So you got to clear $15.5 million to keep Dez, this doesnt account for free agents, rookies, Murry or Smith. Its going to be hard not pushing more money into 2015. And that doesnt even account for the fact that as of now you are already committed to $141 in 2015. I think 2015 is a break even year for Dallas... maybe.
