Lebron gonna play tonight? We all know he will play this weekend.

So I’m on a plane to Salt Lake City sitting next to some guys who work for the Pacers.

All say Bird > Lebron

I polled a bunch of 10 year old kids in my neighborhood and they all say LeBron is better.

Equally reliable data.

Well, they are either from Utah or Indiana.

Which means, either they are Indiana Bird Homers or from Utah. And we all know Utah’s rep with black players.

So not the best sample there.

But nice try.
Yes could be Indiana homers. But they also work in the NBA unlike you. So they obvious know some b-ball.

I mean…

They work for the Pacers.

Good chance they know Bird personally.

Doesn’t get much more biased than that.

Besides, some of the worst takes I have heard about best player debates come from former players who obviously know a lot about the game.

Sometimes smart people are just too close to it to form a rational opinion.

How?

Lebron has better stats, more team accolades and more personal accolades.

I said years go Bird > Lebron.

Since then he's surpassed Bird in pretty much everything

I don't think either could guard the other if head to head in their primes. Lebron is more physically dominant for that edge (and obviously longevity).

No one could do it all like he could. I remember when he was dominating Domonique Wilkins and kept calling him "Holmes" while he was doing it and Wilkins was furious but could do nothing to stop the great man. It was awesome

If nobody could do it like Bird why has LeBron averaged at least 25 points per game for an NBA record 19th straight season and Larry Legend only averaged at least 25 points per game 4 times?

Same here. Not sure exactly which season but LeBron took Bird's title as best SF of all time.

I understand not liking a player. I don't like KD or Kyrie but I give them the credit they deserve for being a couple of best on the planet at what they do.

For some people, especially wiggy, the dislike of a player can reach crazy levels. Just don't get how anyone can have such utter hatred for a pro athlete.

Absolutely.

I still don't like Lebron that much (although his wearing purple and gold has helped a bit).

I hated Jordan

Bird is a Celtic. Fuck that guy.

But they're all top 6-7 players of all time. Their skill set can not be denied, and you have to respect that.

Years ago my husband got tickets to the 96 NBA Finals through his work. I didn't give a shit about the Sonics or the Bulls but this was my only opportunity to see MJ play

That's really cool you've been to a Finals game.

Never been to one of those but I was lucky enough to go to the '97 A.S. game in Cleveland when the 50 greatest players were introduced. I mentioned that to msgkings322 because he's a big Larry Brown fan.

Long story short. My father & Brown became good friends when they were going to school at N. Carolina. He got the tickets and he even set it up where I got meet Larry Legend during A.S. weekend.

Two Finals games actually. Game 3 of the '96 one in Seattle and Game 4 of the 2000 Finals in Indiana.

Got to see some NBA legends. Wish I got to see some games in the 80s though

I kinda lucked out. When the Cavs were playing in Richfield it was about a 20 mile drive. Starting in the early 80's went to most of the Celtics games and saw all the great teams & players of the 80's and early 90's. My very first game Chuck Daly was the HC of the Cavs. And I was at Bird's final game when the Cavs eliminated the Celtics in '92.

Lebron had the advantage of that extra melanin of course (considering the OP, lol)

Um, when did Riles coach Bron?

Lolol. You think coach Pat Riley is a different person as the Heat president?

Coach is always a coach. Are you saying he never talked to Bron? Nor watched him?

Cmon people get your shit together my

Lebron and Bird debate

Better shooter Bird
Had more range Bird
Better passer Bird
Better rebounder Bird
Better in the clutch Bird
Played in a more physical and Tougher era Bird
Better overall offensive player Lebron
Better on defense Lebron

Bird also took a 29 win team and turned them into a 61 win team his rookie year

Rings Bird has 1 less than Bron and never left the Celtics along with going H2H with the Lakers for years.

Shooter based on 3pt and FT %
Passer based on skill and assists. Lebron basically plays PG and LB was at SF/PF

Yeah it’s not close :L

There is no debate. Lebron has played nearly double the productive years Bird has by the time he's done.

Different era. Lebron was gifted stardom and Bird had to earn it.

Lebron literally leads the NBA in total points, total playoff pts, and next year will surpass Kareem in total games played including playoffs.

He didn't earn it? Interesting.

And Bird Magic were stars coming into the NBA. You're tripping if you think otherwise.
