The Tigers have agreed to sign Prince Fielder to a nine-year, $214MM contract Jon Heyman of CBSSports.com reports on Twitter. The 27-year-old first baseman will join Miguel Cabrera in the middle of the Tigers' order to create more than enough offense to make up for the loss of Victor Martinez.
Where is Cabrera going to play? Surely they're not making prince a true dh. Are they going to have them alternate between first and dh?
Prince will be playing 1B... per Heyman

prince will be the first baseman, for anyone asking. cabrera will have to change role. #tigers
Well coming from Disney, I'll wait till it's official before I believe it. If it's true, then good for Detroit...because I wouldn't want us throwing that kind of deal at him.

Here's another question to ponder. Texas really was out on Fielder, but half way let the market think they might be in. Was this a smoke screen for another move behind the scenes? I really believe once prince is totally off the market Texas will get extensions done for Kinsler and Hamilton.
My oh my. The Tigers are the team to lose their minds. Don't see how this makes sense for them, especially long term.
Awesome, I see it now. We don't get Nap extended, he plays out this year. Next year Victor comes back and goes back behind the plate. That frees up DET's Avila, whom we go after hard and heavy.
That guy can hit, and would do great in Texas. No chance they trade him this year, but I'd be really interested in getting him here if we can't get Nap locked down for 3 or so more years.
Almost 24 million dollars a year for 9 years to a slow, overweight, limited range, power-hitting 1st baseman. Ranger fans, count your blessings today. That kind of money for that kind of player is ludicrous and absurd. Big big sigh of relief on this one.
Save your blessings. He was never going to get that kind of deal here. I guess when the billionaire said he would prefer to sign Hamilton, he wasn't kidding.
My thoughts exactly.
well it was a nice dream but realistically we have the offense already and we need to concentrate of keeping it

Like I said. I would be surprised if they don't have some combination of Hamilton, Kinsler, Holland, Napoli signed to extensions before ST.
Still doesn't mean back the truck up to him, Fielder on board or not, Hamilton is still a player who's been healthy for ONE season in his entire CAREER
Years, opt outs and incentives have to be right, only way it makes sense to sign Hamilton, and forget the 7 years he wants
