Yeah. Rangers shouldn't go any higher than 3 years for him.

i would go 4 maybe even 5 if the 4th and 5th years were team option years where he'd have to meet certain performance levels in years 3 and 4

4:51pm: Hawpe would earn $1MM plus bonuses if he makes the Opening Day roster, Jeff Wilson of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram tweets.

3:51pm: The Rangers announced that they signed Brad Hawpe to a minor league deal that includes an invitation to Major League Spring Training. The Beverly Hills Sports Council represents Hawpe, who spent the 2011 season with the Padres.

There's your Fielder backup.

Rangers CEO Nolan Ryan said that it would be "pretty hard to think" that a deal with Prince Fielder would develop in an interview yesterday with ESPN Dallas 103.3 FM, writes Richard Durrett of ESPNDallas.com. However, Ryan also conceded that things can always change as he added, "when you think you’re out of something, you get up the next day and find out opportunities exist."

Meanwhile, Tom Verducci of Sports Illustrated writes that the Rangers and Nationals each offer unique opportunities to Fielder. The Rangers can win right away and can comfortably offer the slugger an opt-out clause. The Nationals would allow Fielder to stay in the National League and play first base exclusively, but the club is seeking stability and wouldn't want to include an opt-out clause in a deal. Verducci feels that the Rangers payroll can expand even further with a brand-new TV deal kicking in for the 2015 season.

i like Martin & Gentry but i would think the Rangers would look to fill the one present-day weakness on their team, if they signed Fielder, and that is in Centerfield. when the playoffs start the Rangers would still have shift Hamilton to Center

I doubt Texas makes any major move at cf. They are grooming Martin. They made a 15m dollar investment in him. I doubt they're going to blow that off. If fielder is acquired I'm fairly certain Moreland is trade bait unless they're planning on having him take on the corner OF eventually.

maybe Martin could be ready later this coming season or more than likely the next season but Martin could be Hamilton's replacement if they let him walk and then we would need a corner outfielder. with his speed and talent Martin can play any of the outfield positions at All-Star caliber level so trading for a top-line CF'er using Moreland, Borbon and others could work to the Rangers advantage

I'm telling you Martin is the CF of the future.

i think they're grooming Martin to replace Hamilton eventually which to me means in any of the outfield positions

and i think Martin is one of the Rangers Outfielders of the Future. i'm not willing to limit him to only 1 of 3 positions

Im not trying to "limit" him to anything either, but he has the potential to be a potentially elite cf. Corner OF'ers are much easier to find.
