The team is going to have to deal one of these guys eventually. You can't sit on all of them. Why not deal the guy who allows you to restock the farm system?

I'm not a Harrison fan and never have been and I agree with your sell high notion, but giving him up for prospects (or Oswalt) isn't exactly selling high.

* Rangers officials continue downplaying the chances of signing both Darvish and Prince Fielder, according to Jon Paul Morosi of FOX Sports and Jon Heyman of CBSSports.com.
* Morosi hears that extension talks with Josh Hamilton are on hold at the moment, while the club works on the Darvish deal. Hamilton will earn $13.75MM in 2012 and is set to hit free agency once the season ends.
* Heyman hears that the Rangers are likely to sign Darvish to a contract worth slightly more than the $52MM Daisuke Matsuzaka obtained from the Red Sox.
* The Rangers seem to love the idea of signing Fielder and would become the favorite to land the slugger if the Darvish deal falls through, Heyman writes.
* The Rangers have three unsigned arbitration eligible players: Mike Napoli, Nelson Cruz and Elvis Andrus.

The Rangers have a 4pm central time deadline to sign Yu Darvish today. If they fail to reach an agreement with agents Don Nomura and Arn Tellem, the $51,703,411 posting fee will not be paid to the Nippon Ham Fighters and Darvish will return to Japan for the 2012 season. The latest:

* The Rangers' optimism "has waned a bit," reports MLB.com's T.R. Sullivan. Negotiations ran late into the night and "there are definitely still some differences that have cooled the Rangers optimism." I don't doubt Sullivan in the least, but pessimistic reports are par for the course for deadline day on big-time negotiations such as these.
* The Rangers are "cautiously optimistic that Darvish will be signed," reports Jeff Wilson of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram.

Guess they didnt want to risk it, personally thats the route I was advocating especially after how good Feliz was in ST in a starters role

Man that pen was such a mess coming out of spring. I left after that week in Surprise with a horrible feeling in my gut about the pen sinking the team. Lowe looked aweful, Tatteyama couldn't get anyone out, and none of the young guys were stepping up. It's amazing the job JD did on the fly getting that pen in much better shape.

So we're assuming they get Darvish done. Question is, what's next. There's definitely something working behind the scenes.

I think it involves Prince Fielder. i know the Rangers are saying that if Darvish gets done they won't pursue Prince but my gut says they are already talking to him and Borass

It's already been confirmed that they are talking.

i meant more than they're admitting. i think they're talking contract details based on us signing or not signing Darvish. if we don't sign Darvish, then they would be looking at a more balanced annual salary and if we do, then a contact more like Pujois did with LA

The Rangers are close to a deal with Darvish, tweets Jon Paul Morosi of FOX Sports. He elaborates that the Rangers and Darvish "are still working on details, but they are making good progress" with four hours remaining until the deadline.

If the Rangers landed Fielder, what lineup are we looking at? My guess:

Andrus
Kinsler
Hamilton
Fielder
Beltre
Young
Cruz
Napoli
Gentry/Murphy

Sheesh! That's an honest day's work right there.

i think if we land Fielder the Rangers put a package together and bring in a CF'er like Adam Jones or McCutheon and then adjust the lineup like this:

CF'er
Kinsler
Fielder
Beltre
Hamilton
Cruz
Napoli
Young
Andrus
