LOL

Probably, but I have no idea what will happen. If Texas is determined to move Mitch and keep Josh, then Pena is the guy that makes a lot of sense.

you could be right, you nailed the Napoli deal. we will have to wait and see.

Catcher/designated hitter Victor Martinez suffered a torn ACL in his left knee during his off-season conditioning last week, according to the Tigers. Surgery is anticipated, which the Tigers say would cost Martinez the 2012 season.

Ouch.

I wouldn't. Scherzer would only be a minimal upgrade over what we currently have. Did you forget what it was like to have an offensive black hole at the catcher position? Or do you want Torrealba calling all the games this year?

That is why I threw the icon on there. There is no way they would trade a starting pitcher for a one year rental when Martinez will eventually come back.

But it also means that if we were to offer that and could get a 190 IP starter for a catcher that maybe we could work a "we are going to trade you and then resign you next offseason" deal, then I would.

I'm beginning to wonder if the reason the Rangers don't want to sign Darvish at 5 years is because they are trying to get Prince as well. I just don't see why else the Rangers would be so hung up on a year's difference. They've already committed so much money to getting him signed, the total seems to be worked out, obviously the Rangers want to commit less per year given that they want him for 6 instead of 5. Now maybe it's for resigning core guys, but it just feels like Prince is what it's really about.

A) I don't see why you meet with him and his agent if you have no intention of trying to get him, I really don't think it gives that much leverage on the Darvish negotiation because from what we are hearing it's about years, not money.

B) It's the best fit out there, we have a hole at first base, it's a hitters park, and our cornerstone players are in their last years contract wise (Young and Josh)

C) I don't think the Rangers are going to keep Josh, he's a liability as far as his past, injury, and he's 3 years older. I think we would just about all swap Prince for Hamilton, have nothing against Josh personally, I just think it makes the most baseball sense.

There's a very good reason Boras and Fielder have been waiting around for Texas to finish their negotiations with Darvish. notice how the market grinded to a hault on Fielder once Texas got the winning bid on Darvish?

A) Fielder wants to play in Texas and knows nothing is happening until after the Darvish negotiations

B) Texas advised Boras and Fielder that they are interested in some blockbuster signings possibly involving him.

C) You don't waste time and money flying out for a "preliminary meeting". Texas already knows what the Darvish contract will cost and is crunching numbers and feeling out an offer for Fielder.

The Rangers and four players exchanged arbitration figures Tuesday. By doing this, the club and player establish the middle ground and can now negotiate right up until a hearing date, which would be in February. The players and figures:

Elvis Andrus submitted $3.60 million with the club offering $2.65 million

Nelson Cruz submitted $7.50 million with the club offering $5.50 million

Matt Harrison submitted $3.50 million with the club offering $2.45 million

Mike Napoli submitted $11.50 million with the club offering $8.30 million

The largest gaps belong to Cruz and Napoli. The midpoint is exactly $1 million between Cruz and the Rangers, but there's a gap of $3.2 million between Napoli and the club. The midpoint in that exchange would be $9.9 million.

Damn mike. 11.5 million after one stellar second half? Awful proud of that aren't you.

Rangers left-handed starter Matt Harrison agrees to a one-year deal worth $2.95 million, avoding arbitration.

Harrison and the Rangers had exchanged figures earlier in the day with Harrison at $3.50 and the club at $2.45. The found middle ground quickly after that at $2.95 million and got the deal done.

That leaves three unsigned salary arbitration players: catcher Mike Napoli, shortstop Elvis Andrus and outfielder Nelson Cruz.

Harrison was 14-9 with a 3.39 ERA in 31 games (30 of them starts) in 2011. He had the second-lowest ERA among Rangers starters and was second in quality starts with 20. He gave up just 13 homers in 185 2/3 innings, the fourth-best ratio of home runs per nine innings in the American League.

Quick! Trade him and sign the gimpy backed Oswalt, big upgrade!

Well you can switch that around to why not bring in a veteran top of the rotation guy for a guy with minimal major league success and a history of being a mental midget.

I think you guys are minimalizing the point of selling high on Harrison just a little bit.
