as of 11:45PM last night:

The Orioles, Red Sox, Blue Jays, Rockies, Tigers and Rangers are among the teams that have expressed some interest in Jair Jurrjens, according to Jon Heyman of CBSSports.com. The Braves have suggested they won’t trade the right-hander within their division.

I wonder how many teams the Rangers will be talking to as a backup plan just in case Darvish doesn't sign.

Why would the Rangers trade away prospects and MLB players on a back up plan when there's talk of a 6 man rotation?

I think they're just keeping the lines of communication open. I doubt they do anything until they decide on Darvish.

Brings me back to the original statements concerning a 6 man rotation...

Traditional thinking would count this idea as absurd due to your "ace" not getting maximum starts, but the truth is all these guys have too many questions to be considered a good #2 much less a number #1

The value added in keeping these guys fresh and keeping their workload low, at least for the start of the season could be far greater than getting a couple extra starts out of Lewis or Holland

Am I saying its a great idea for the whole season? No

But for the first or so starts, might be worth a look for about 5 or 10 starts and then narrow it down when its clear as to who's a keeper and who's not

ST will do alot to sort out these long before we get to that point:

Feliz gets roughed up and starts in AAA, Ogando gets roughed up and goes to the bullpen, Feldman or Harrison proves to be a better longman and spot starter than rotation fixture

That would leave the rotation bound only: Darvish, Lewis, and Holland

Note: I tend to think of Harrison as a starter only and not a candidate for the bullpen but many would tend to disagree

I inclined to think that 2 of Ogando, Harrison, Feliz and Feldman will show enough to warrant putting them in the rotation and if all 4 do, then I'm ok with the idea of a 6 man to help out guys like Darvish and Feliz ease into the rotation and/or keep Ogando fresher and put Feldman as the longman

Luis Martinez is just a catcher with options they can call back and forth from AAA to be the 3rd catcher

with the addition of Martinez and the probable signing of Darvish that still leaves 2 spots on the 40-man roster, any thoughts what the Rangers will do to fill those 2 spots?

* The Rangers released former first rounder Kasey Kiker, according to MLB.com's T.R. Sullivan (on Twitter). Kiker, the 12th overall selection in 2006, posted a 4.53 ERA with 9.2 K/9 and 5.2 BB/9 in six minor league seasons. However, the 24-year-old walked 52 batters in 44 2/3 innings at Class A this past season.
* The Rangers also released Mitch Hilligoss, according to Anthony Andro of FOXSportsSouthwest.com (on Twitter). The 26-year-old infielder hit .258/.304/.358 in 465 plate appearances for Texas' Single and Double-A affiliates this year. The Rangers acquired him from the Yankees for Greg Golson nearly two years ago, and once upon a time he was part of the Johan Santana trade talks.

LH relievers (Oliver & Gonzalez)

might try to fill the util position internally or with a non-roster invitee

Some executives say Prince Fielder wants a ten-year deal, but a number of clubs are interested in something closer to a six-year contract, Olney reports.

what would you be willing to offer?

Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports makes the case that the Mariners should trade Felix Hernandez this offseason, but Mariners GM Jack Zduriencik disagrees. “I still say, as I’ve said all along, we’ve still got the best young pitcher in the game, and that’s pretty darned good,” Zduriencik said. Rosenthal pointed to the prospects the Padres obtained for Mat Latos and the fact that the AL West has become tougher this offseason.

You're right jack. You do have one of the best pitchers in the game period. You've got some great young arms behind him as well. And that's all you got. You got a team full of pitchers that knows they can't give up more than one run if they want to win.

Doubtful. They're probably focused on Darvish, and signing Hamilton, Napoli, Kinsler, and holland to extensions.

i'm 99.95% sure that you're right but the Rangers have the knack of surprising everyone

Regardless of how they fill the UTIL and LHP bullpen positions, there are a number of pitchers that could be dropped in an effort to make room for somebody and a couple of them might clear waivers and accept a minor league assignment

ARLINGTON -- The Rangers have released pitcher Kasey Kiker, their No. 1 pick in the 2006 First-Year Player Draft.

Kiker, the 12th overall pick in 2006 out of Russell County (Ala.) High School, spent last season at Class A Myrtle Beach and went 3-4 with a 7.05 ERA in 30 appearances. He walked 52 batters in 44 2/3 innings pitched. He walked 46 in 40 innings in 2010.

The Rangers went into that Draft hoping to take pitcher Tim Lincecum out of the University of Washington, but the Giants took him with the 10th overall pick. The Rangers passed on pitchers Kyle Drabek and Ian Kennedy to take Kiker.
