i guess the big question left for the Rangers now is does Uehara get traded before pitchers show at Surprise for ST?

My guess is no. Uehara would be a greaty specialist against lefties. But Nolan needs to sit wash's ass down and explain exactly how he is to be used. I trust Uehara, just not Wash's ability to use him correctly.

Billy Beane is a hack that got lucky a few times. You could've bought a legitimate proven ML hitter or two for that.

Or locked up their young pitchers rather than giving them away for pennies on the dollar

I'm guessing that conversation would go like this:

Nolan: "Ron, Koji can be an asset, just remember one rule. Don't ever, ever, ever let him pitch in August"

Ron: "got it, sir"

Or no more than one batter.

with Ogando, Adams & Nathan covering the 8th & 9th and possibly part of the 7th, Uehara would become a situation pitcher who faces 1 maybe 2 batters in the 7th

You mean for pitching something other than batting practice? Not sure how Wash was supposed to have used this guy in the wrong way since he sucked from day one. I suspect that Nolan was on board when Wash and his staff made the decision to sit Uehara during the last round of the playoffs and WS.

A) He did not suck from day one. He made about three successful appearances before he wore out.

B) Uehara's lack of stamina is well known and Wash continued to try and use him for entire innings in the brutal Texas heat.

C) He had already pitched a career high of innings before being pulled from the only home he had ever known since coming to the United States and was thrust into a brutal and hot environment.

His numbers are no fluke. He just needs to be given the chance to be with the club from the first day, and Wash needs to understand he should not be used to get through entire innings. Anyone with any brains knows he is a surgeon. Wash's managing of his pitchers is a freaking joke, but nobody wants to point out that giant elephant in the room.

actually:
1) he had quite a few good shutdown starts before he started sucking it up. I'd say over a dozen where he would get strikeouts and allowed no runs, earned or otherwise

2) the heat part is spot on, but the career innings isnt. His first year here 2009 he pitched more innings than he did in both BWI and TEX combined last year.

Wash gets his pitching advice from Maddux and Nolan. Both of those guys accept no excuse, you pitch when called on. Wash sent Koji out to do the job he was paid for, and I firmly believe he had Maddux telling him when it was time to use which pitcher. And I'd bet if you went to Nolan saying someone was gassed because of the heat he would say "Fine, start them the next two times around and let's get him used to it". Nolan is an old timer badass, when the game wasn't full of pitch limits and pussies. He wants his guys to be the same.

You're right he didn't suck from day one. It was day two. His August was terrible, but to be fair he rebounded and had a good September which makes the lack of stamina theory suspect.
I was wrong about him only pitching one round of the playoffs. He faced TB and Detroit (33.00 ERA) before being relagated to the bench for the WS.

A surgeon? Maybe that's the problem since Wash was trying to use him as a pitcher. A manager or pitching coach that doesn't know how to use their pitching staff may luck out and go to one World Series, but not two in a row.
The giant elephant in the room may be the fact that the Rangers are trying to trade him.
Having said all that, you may be right about him starting from day one, if he's still here.

Washington was grossly out managed 2 WS in a row. That said, all I'm saying is I'm not ready to throw Koji to the dogs yet.

I'm not denying he was. I'm just stating that was the exception rather than the norm.

He threw the same number of innings in 09 and wasn't very good. If his success is reliant on throwing less than 50 innings in a season then he's a bum. He's a soft tosser anyway, no reason for him to get tired.

2009: 4.05 ERA and 1.25 WHIP 66.2 IP (all starts)
2010: 2.86, 0.95, 44
2011: 2.35, 0.72, 65

175.2 IP and 188 Ks, soft tosser or not he strikes people out

2009 he was only a starter and it was his first season in the U.S. so not really a fair comparison to his 2011

Guy ran into some troubles with the longball pitching in Arlington, 3 HRs in 6.1 IP
