what are the chances the rangers are thinking 6 man rotation??? lewis, holland, oswalt, harrison, darvish, feliz and seeing how that goes

keeps the innings down on yu/feliz for their 1st year starting

They've stated multiple times it's not going to happen.

i think AAA would be simply so he can keep stretching his arm out without feeling forced to go at least 5 innings. He can pitch every 5th day and move his inning/pitch count up. There would be no use in letting him pitch in the majors every day if he is going to still be capped at 80 pitches. That would tax the bullpen early on.

This was part of my thinking also.

they state lots of things then do the opposite :)

might start that way then due to injuries/performance get down to the standard
5 man rot.

Yes, in relation to FA deals and trades. Not with how they're going to handle their pitching staff. Texas has great faith in Colby and Holland and going to a 6 man rotation takes valuable innings away from them. They've made it very clear they will have a 5 man rotation.

i would rather give the young guys the ball-----like i said earlier we could have

holland, harrison, feliz, darvish, perez as our rotation in 2 years with them all being under 29

I do agree with this. Oswalt is a very unnecessary gamble in my opinion. Especially when we have two pitchers in the bullpen with successful starting experience. I would rather not sign him. Texas is setting themselves up to have a dominant rotation for years to come, and if we get an Ogando like season from Feliz I'll be happy.

That said, I was just saying that if they did sign Oswalt Feliz would likely start the season in AAA to further stretch out unless they have a trade planned.

Problem with saying Feliz is wasting in AAA, the fact is, in his one stop starting at the AAA level, he DID struggle somewhat with the transition, he wasn't bad but it was clear he had some things to to work on,

What earned him the promotion and bypassed that all was the Rangers need for a power arm in the bullpen and obviously he was ready for that type of role

no one said that. if Feliz has trouble with his secondary pitches then do you suggest that we let him struggle here or give him time in the minors to correct the issues? i would rather see him work on them there then see him get hammered here

will you give it a rest? no one is saying that Feliz hasn't got what it takes to start. what we are saying is maybe he might need some time to work on his secondary pitches which as a closer he did not use with any consistency. MLB hitters are noted for their ability to hit fastballs and Feliz threw more than 80% fastballs as a closer. he needs to reduce that to 55-60% as a starter and that means that he has to throw his secondary pitches with consistency at least 40-45% of the time.

yes and while he takes longer than cj/ogando did most here think oswalt should take is spot???...thats what we have been talking about

if they want to sign oswalt fine then put feliz back as the closer

why do you think he doesnt have is secondary pitches ready right now??
he will throw what the catcher calls

My guess is if they do sign him Feliz will start the year in AAA if everyone is healthy coming our of ST. People talk about moving Harrison to the bullpen but you have to feel like he earned his spot and Harrison actually had better numbers against right handed batters than lefties, so making him a lefty specialist doesn't make sense.

Moving Harrison out of the rotation also makes the rotation very right handed heavy as Derek Holland would be the only lefty if Harrison were bumped. Even if Texas signs Oswalt I highly doubt Harrison is going anywhere, and things may just shake themselves out in ST.

I look at it this way... injuries happen. The Rangers could enter Spring Training with 7 starters & leave it with 5 (with the other 2 injured). Its always nice to have "options".
Reliable options that is. Teams can never have enough starting pitching.

That said, I would rather see Harrison in the rotation and watch him develop more (instead of out in the 'pen)....but... who's to say it wouldnt be Feliz that gets sent down to AAA to get accumulated to starting again...

Then one someone goes down with an injury...Feliz is ready to step in...

Rotation could look like...

Lewis (all signs point to him on opening day)
Holland
Oswalt
Darvish
Harrison

With Feliz in AAA to start the season and Ogando & Feldman in the BP.

I'd be ok with that scenario... then if/when Oswalt goes down with an injury...Feliz slides into the #3 spot.

That being said, I would be ok with them not adding Oswalt as well. All depends on the $$$...

I do agree with this. Oswalt is a very unnecessary gamble in my opinion. Especially when we have two pitchers in the bullpen with successful starting experience. I would rather not sign him.
