Whats with this constant exchange between the Rangers & the Orioles
I'm about to start referring to Baltimore as Texas' B team.
Whats with this constant exchange between the Rangers & the Orioles
Most aren't old enough to remember a similary familiarity during the early 1960s between the then Kansas City As and the New York Yankees.
Actually ... TEX with its dealing last season for Koji and Gonzalez probably knew every single guy in the BAL system as well as its own ... and may have alerts built into its management system so it knows when guys it rated high enough for action were they to come available. Wouldn't doubt that TEX and other teams may have very high data management programs on every ML and minor leaguers based on draft position or performance at every level.
from mlbtraderumors:
The Rangers have signed Kyle Hudson to a minor league deal with an invite to Spring Training, according to Executive Vice President of Communications John Blake (via Twitter). The Orioles released the outfielder on Monday.
The 25-year-old hit .296/.375/.336 line with 41 stolen bases in 485 minor league plate appearances last season. Hudson also appeared in 14 Major League games for the O's as a September callup.
Maybe there is something lots more obvious that I am missing. Perhaps Hudson is not projected to be a superstar in CF ... but in 2011 he played in A+, AA, and AAA plus for BAL. And then they DFA'd him and released him.
Very curious. He had options left ... so why didn't they simply option him back to the minors. How do you give up on a guy to the point you get nothing for him after he played in 4 levels the year before?
i thought it was over but Gerry Fraley of The Dallas Morning News reports that the Rangers will meet with Oswalt on Monday, assuming he's still a free agent by then. Fraley reiterates that Texas has not made the right-hander an offer.
Beginning to think this might happen. Most comments have been about what happens to Harrison if TEX signs Oswalt. But maybe instead of Harrison ... an Oswalt signing is primarily to take the pressure off Feliz from having to be ready no matter what to take the #5 spot?
So maybe Opening day rotation is ... Lewis, Holland, Darvish, Harrison, and Oswalt?
That leaves Feldman and Ogando in the BP ... and Feliz heating it up in AAA so he's ready to jump into the middle of it for the second half.

By the way. Remember when we were asking if other teams boards propose asinine trade ideas? Check the pirates board.

Might be someone they see as a platoon partner to team up with Gentry as opposed to Borbon and give Martin some extra seasoning in AAA
Sure is a growing queue on the left side of that platoon. While Hudson doesn't have a roster spot ... his non-roster invite sends a message to Borbon ... and perhaps even louder message to Engle Beltre.
Not really news persay... but rather an interesting fact...
From Buster Olney's blog...
Stephen Strasburg's first 92 innings in the majors, in light of his age, have been matched by one other pitcher in history. A current pitcher, actually.
From John Labombarda of the Elias Sports Bureau: Players with 100 or more strikeouts, an ERA less than 2.60 and a WHIP less than 1.00 through a season in which they turned 23:
Neftali Feliz: 2009-11, 164 strikeouts, 2.55 ERA, 0.95 WHIP
Strasburg: 2010-11, 116 strikeouts, 2.54 ERA, 0.98 WHIP

Nice comparison ... but it's a bit apples to oranges since Feliz numbers are complete season stats and I believe Strasburg was pitch limited and was shutdown early in 2010.
No matter ... I'd prefer to have Feliz for full season in either Closer or SP role ... but bet is K's, ERA, and WHIP go up as an SP. Nice comparison though on the surface.
