You don’t have to open Pandora’s Box. You make the most equitable outcome based decision now and then at the off season owners meetings they put a plan in place for a similar circumstance should it arise again.
Will the NFL reschedule it equitably though? I think we all have some level of doubts on that. Hence the concern of a Wednesday game or a no-contest. That's kinda what annoys me about this. The NFL and the NFLPA *can* work something out here. Horrible situation.

The most interesting part of this is going to be whether Goodell appeases the TV people or the NFLPA.

The NFLPA is going to push for the game to be played 1 week from this weekend and the playoffs to be pushed back 1 week.
The TV people are going to say FUCK THAT and want the playoffs to start when they are scheduled to start.

Those really are the two most likely options. It means a game tomorrow....or a game a week from this weekend. My guess is that Cinci and the Bills better get ready for a game tomorrow and the TV people win the argument.

Look, I've been following football for nearly 40 years. I know full well that there have been a number of scary life-threatening/altering injuries sustained through the years.

Read my posts again. In full. This is the first time teams declined to continue playing. Hence, it's a case of first impression.
I don't need to read your post again - you said a contingency couldn't have been in place because they couldn't have foreseen this event happening. That is 100% false because:

A - You clearly don't know the definition of contingency - because that is the VERY definition: To have a plan in place for a POSSIBLE event or occurrence. So, no first impression is required for a contingency plan as you keep inferring/stating.

B - The NFL could have ABSOLUTELY foreseen a game not being completed due to the violent nature of the game, and the past history of injuries, including death.

So, you may have followed the game for 40 years - but your argument that the NFL couldn't have possibly known this MIGHT be an issue at some point is ridiculous and unfounded....especially since you used the word contingency in a manner that is counter to what the actual meaning is.

I’m saying there is no reschedule to worry about. It’s on to week 18.
1. Bills
2. Chiefs
3. Bengals
And we go from there based on week 18 outcomes.

Gonna be a spicy 48 hours for the NFL as we figure this shit out. Arguably the top 4 teams in the AFC are all impacted by this in some form or another and everyone's hooting and hollering at this point.

I kind of leave the Ravens out of my thinking here because of their inherited issues with Lamar’s injury.

I tend to agree if anyone should be forfeiting, it should be the Bills. Don't think it'll happen in a million years because that implies loss of salary, but that is a lot more fair than some of the other stuff being suggested at this point.

The only way anyone forfeits is if the NFL tries to force in a game that Buffalo refuses to play. Canceling the game altogether is the path forward if they can't move the playoffs out by a week IMO.

If they push the playoffs back 1 week, it effects EVERYONE. Every playoff team, except for these 2 teams, will get a one bye week. Except the #1 seeds. They would get 2 bye weeks.

I personally am going to be a little pissed if they push the playoffs back one week. Friends and I have reservations at a casino for that weekend to play the sportbooks (not legal in my state currently).

Is that potentially the least bad outcome though at a human level? That's kind where I am at right now.

Agreed. As I have said, any talk of forfeit is 99% academic, especially since it implies no game-checks.

BINGO. Put the onus back on Buffalo to decide, taking the hassle off the league.

Why take away the game checks? Make the TV stations be t he bad guys. Make them say, we insist this game be played for ratings and our income, so we are forcing the Bills and Bengals to play if they want paid.

NFL rule thing. This was a big deal when games were being threatened during COVID-ball, if you remember.

Forfeit = no pay

No contest makes way more sense than forfeits.

Rescheduling for next week and moving the schedule back (maybe moving the pro bowl) would be humane.

Once again, no one gives a F unless it affects their team or themselves personally.
