I love the idea, and there's very little doubt he's extremely explosive - something I've been wanting at RB for a while. I would've much rather had Lamar Miller or Ronnie Hillman at that point, though. Gore, Hunter, James, and Jacobs is a pretty damn good backfield now.

One hell of a runningback by committee... precamp it seems like Gore will still get the largest load, Hunter will be his relief, Jacobs will be mostly goalline and short yardage with James being the gadget player.

All the same, since Gore won't start 16 games, keeping 4 capable RBs is the way to go.

Jacobs isnt going to get cut, he will have something to prove and he's more proven then Hunter or Dixon, he just had 8 Td's last year, he will be our goaline back, he has averaged 8 Tds since he's been in the league

It's clear Harbaugh is loading up on competition for 3 of the 4 offense skill positions. There was really no need to draft either Jenkins or James, as well as sign Johnson, but with a full off-season Harbaugh is clearly going to roll out the balls at those three positions.

Agreed, let the best play and here's the thing, we are now loaded on offense. Went from scrubs at WR to Moss, Manningham and Jenkins and now added Jacobs and James at RB. Talk about upgrades all across the board and not minor ones

Not just goalline, I think he'll be their 3rd and 1, 4th and inches guy too.

I only saw him in the two 49ers games, but his attitude was pretty clear. After his gains he'd, look for Willis and Bowman to talk shit... you want to see that. Instead of Dixon dancing around in the backfield.

Exactly. Harbaugh is clearly employing a develop through coaching and relentless competition strategy - which is straight out of Walsh's playbook. He is building a solid, young, high performance core with depth at the skill positions. We could easily be watching the beginning of another dynasty.

I wonder if Harbs will play a bunch of backs on game day like they did at Stanford. James is a freak. I was surprised that his forty times weren't in the 4.3s because his field speed is phenomenal. If there is a crease, he's gone. Love the pick.

Yeah but 85% of those TDs were Bradshaw taking the ball up the field for Jacobs to get the ball at the one. That's about the only time he doesn't try to run a damn sweep. But then again, hopefully that's all that we got him for.

Also, don't forget Jacobs contract is tiny. They can cut him with no problem whatsoever. So don't think he's a lock. If neither him or Dixon impress, I expect them to keep Dixon for his ST abilities.

I love the pick, personally I am glad we wont be carrying Moran Norris's ass for another season lol. I think Gore, Hunter, Jacobs, James, and Miller end up as the 5 RB's on the roster.
