Going out and scouting is not overstated TJF12. You'll routinely find Pat Riley (at his age), Lawrence Franks, and Paul Rivers to name a few at many college basketball games scouting players all over the country. Certainly Magic can choose to be just a the face of the franchise and let others bring him players but many of his colleagues are doing the work firsthand and that may be the edge that Magic will not necessarily have.

Riley doesn't go out as much anymore, but none of those guys do all of the scouting. That firsthand is actually more 2nd or 3rd hand. The scout team does most of the leg work.

Normally, when they show up, it's for games involving top draft picks playing each other (Magic was at UCLA/Washington checking out Ball and Fultz, as were several others) or when they are trying to make a final decision on guys the scout team has already seen and told them about.

The Lakers are hanging around in OKC. Down by 4. Swaggy, Russell, Clarkson, and Nance are getting more minutes now that Williams and Huertas are gone.

Haven't seen Ennis yet or Brewer. The young core are playing major minutes right now. That is what Magic wanted and I suppose Luke as well.

Zubac is looking pretty good tonight. He is playing a lot here in the third.

Nance is kickin' some serious butt. Looks like the continuity of the team has been disrupted but that is expected with trades.

I liked that the kids fought back and got to within 9 with 4 minutes left. Lou may have been able to help them steal this game. But, this will be good for them, a learning experience for how to maintain momentum.

Yea, I agree TJF12. One of the many reasons magic moved Lou Williams is to get the youngsters more playing time TOGETHER.

Yep, the next guy to go will be Calderon so that Ennis can get more playing time. Magic and Luke are going full on youth movement. I hope he can figure out a way to move others that are useless.

Agree. I'm really happy to see the youth movement in full swing. It's more obvious than ever that Jim Buss signing Mozgov and Deng was a move about him trying to keep his job than about what was best for the team.

Ironically, had he just stood pat and reserved cap space, he would have had a stronger case for keeping his job since he could say he was fully committing to the youth movement.

I totally agree. The true Short Buss has been exposed by two of the biggest cluster f-job trades he orchestrated. I am sure Magic is looking at ways to move Deng and Mosgov and still save money and possibly get something of value in return.

I wonder what can they do to get out of Mosgov's contract? Just a horrible deal bidding against no one.

I think one of the few ways to get out of that contract is to find somebody who will trade for it and that isn't happening until the June draft, maybe.

At this point, I think that their only option aside from finding a sucker in a trade, would be to release one of them and then use the stretch provision. That would extend the payments over more years and provide cap relief. I'm pretty sure they can only use that on one player though. So, they would still be stuck with the other contract unless they could find a sucker or if one of them decided to retire.
