Andre Drummond just got traded for 2 bums and a 2nd round pick. Now the Cavs are actively shopping him too.

He puts up stats, but nobody actually seems to want him on their team.

Which still blows my mind

And Prime Shaq is only a hundred times better than Drummond

He is definitely a lot better.

Point is, you used Drummond as a specific example of a guy who plays with similar style. And I would bet if GMs were ranking their top 50 best players, Drummond wouldn’t even be on a bunch of the lists.

Because that style of play just isn’t as effective in the modern game.

Ok, how about Kobe? Could he not play in this era lol? Same team as Shaq, Shaq the more dominant player. There is simply no way Shaq could be defended in this era. None. No one could guard him one on one or even two on one. Name the modern team. Who is checking him? World Champ Lakers? AD is a great defender but you are Looney Tunes if you don't think Shaq would dunk all over AD. Next up, Bucks? Clippers? Come on

Shaq was a pretty underrated passer. But he'd get doubled a lot more even then he was before. He'd still get his and like others have said he'd probably have stayed leader with less one on one play and more pace.

His defensive impact would be reduced however..

You clearly don’t get it.

Kobe is a do everything wing who can shoot and score from all 3 levels. Of course he would be just as great today.

The rules have changed. Analytics have changed the way the game is played even more. Nobody can guard Shaq 1 on 1 just like nobody could 20 years ago. The difference is that now there are more defensive adjustments teams are allowed to make in order to make life difficult for a traditional post player.

He would get his buckets and be an all star no doubt. But like I said, he would not be in the conversation for best player in the league.

Oh please.. If a team like the 2020 Heat can make the finals and win 2 games (LOL!!!)) than the MJ Bulls/ Kobe/Shaq Lakers/ Duncan spurs win 5-10 titles in this era. Gimme a break.

That's intelligent.

Still waiting for you to unravel the mystery of your 5-minute-apart posts that guaranteed James Harden both can and cannot win a title.

You kids...keep listening to Sportscenter for your basketball knowledge. You're probably right, Shaq couldn't okay in this era. Dont let the fact that LBJ, Steph, Kawhi, or any other current player would look at you like you're the biggest dipshit in history if they heard you say that. But you heard Scott Van Pelt say it so you are a SERIOUS source of basketball knowledge. Keep preaching, wise one. Hysterical

Literally nobody here said he couldn’t play today. Please find 1 quote that says this.

You think he would be even more dominant. And your posts backing up your logic prove definitively that you have no clue what you are talking about. You can’t even grasp the reasons you have been given backing up a pretty obvious conclusion.

The game has changed more in the past 10 years than in the previous 50.

Bigs who are most highly valued today can do these things:

1) defend in space and guard pick and roll well
2) Play effectively away from the paint to complement an inside presence.

That is not Shaq’s skill set. And even then, we live in a guard/wing dominated league today. All the best teams are led by perimeter players, and the dominant bigs (Jokic, Embiid, AD) can all play on the perimeter.

That's you old man. Thinking Shaq wouldn't dominate today makes you basketball brain dead

Find where I said that, or stfu.

You're embarrassing yourself and too stupid to know it.

The rest of us are definitely entertained though.

So at least you have that going for you.

As a whole.

Great players could play of course.

But like Shaq especially wouldn’t be as impactful. Kobe would be fine obviously.

I think what he means is that the average guard from
20 years ago wouldn’t be anything close to an average guard today.

And I agree with that.
Why wouldn't Shaq be as impactful?

I have answered in pretty great detail already.

Defensive rule changes make it easier to throw multiple bodies at post players.

Also, Shaq was not a good pick and roll defender and most modern offenses are built around pick and roll. That wasn’t the case 20 years ago.

The biggest change in hoops from a gameplay standpoint is the inability to iso a big. That was where Shaq thrived as teams still didn't adjust to the rule changes until later in the 2000s.
