Care to elaborate?

hard to do when one guys stats dominate the other guys. lawrie came up late in his first yr and looked like a complete player. he started the following season on fire and got hurt. he hasn't been able to stay on the field and when he is on the field he has been hurt.

Bit of shock move but Toronto won this deal hands down.

Billy Beane is over-rated and trade-happy. Plus he knows he missed his window. If it weren't for Houston, his As would be finishing last.

So the A's went from title or bust this year to a team clearly with no intentions of making the playoffs

But this is exactly what the A's do. Amass talent, flip it and trust their scouts to keep their system stocked.

It was also a small sample size. We've seen plenty of guys start out hot like Brennan Boesch and Jose Iglesias, for starters.

I do think Lawrie's a fine player when healthy and given his age, he could still turn into a star. But durability is a skill IMO. And Lawrie hasn't had a single "full" season even close to Donaldson's 2013 or 2014 seasons. Lawrie's bat has been around league average over the last three seasons, while Donaldson was one of the better hitters in the majors in 2014 and especially 2013. Donaldson's rated as one of the best defensive 3B in the league while Lawrie's rated as average/above average (not including Total Zone Runs because they don't account for the shift and credit him as making plays at 2nd as a 3B).

I wouldn't be too surprised if Lawrie ends up providing more career value than Donaldson from this point on, but right now, there's really no logical argument for him being better.

I guess its a good way to guarantee that you make it to the first round of the playoffs every year and then :yield: once you hit the playoffs
