I think Casino Royale was a breath of fresh air after the other Bond actors had long played themselves out.

I don't like much of the rest of the list though.

My knowledge of Bond movies is pretty limited. I grew up playing Goldeneye on N64 and Ive seen Die Another Day, Casino Royale and Skyfall in theaters and Quantum of Solace on DVD. I actually thought Die Another Day was fun in a ridiculous way. Skyfall was just a great movie and could've had any type of agent in it. Quantum was boring which is the worst thing a Bond movie could be. Casino Royale without the context of the series actually needing a reboot isn't the same. Its good overall but Craig seems wildly miscast which is odd because he is perfectly cast to do Skyfall. Casino Royale wasn't bad (I just saw Kingsman and that was really, really awful) but I don't feel like the tone is right in that movie.

I grew up with Sean Connery and to me the earlier Bond films were best, the closest to "spy" films. One reason Casino Royale was a back to basics type of film.

This is as ridiculous as Marvel and DC taking characters with 40 or 50 years of canon and making them gay. Or this new ghostbusters being some femnazi orgy and being all chicks.

Liberal PC nonsense.

You want a black bond-like character. Make one.

But altering the character after years of canon...ridiculous.

If it's a fictional character I could care less the ethnicity or race of the person playing the role. Off the top of my head Elba would be as good or better than anyone I could think of for Bond.

Changing the sex on the fly is ridiculous, unless we are talking about a time lord. But changing the race is no big deal.

That said, Bond should not be black just for the sake of making him black. But if an actor the quality of Elba were available and wanted the position, why not add him to the short-list?

While he's not British, what about Nikolai Coster-Waldau? He's got that air of superiority down. He's two years younger than Craig. He can do action as well as typical misogynistic-type scenes.

Sean Connery isn't British, he's Scottish so it's not as if Bond needs be Brit.

Elba is a good actor no doubt about it. I just don't see him in the image of Bond. The thing with Craig is he sells it better as a more rugged Bond than Moore or Brosnan did, they seemed to be all debonair and flair and I hated it. I actually didn't mind Timothy Dalton, though it's fair to say that the two he was in were fairly weak plots.

Foster-Waldau doesn't have the air of seriousness that I picture for Bond. He is a "pretty boy", but seems just of the brink of changing his mind. Bond is dedicated and confidant. Costar-Waldau seems too flippant.

Elba, however, has the look of someone who has made up his mind.

I can see your image, though I'm not quite sure I completely buy that image. He was just someone that might be considered that isn't necessarily 'big' now. Craig kind of surprised me both in image and delivery, refreshingly so especially after Brosnan. Don't get me wrong I like Pierce, I used to watch Remington Steele when I was a wee lad, but I don't picture him as Bond at all. Different strokes and all...

Who here is going to see Spectre this weekend?

I'm definitely going but had higher hopes for the film until the ratings came out. 62 % is still respectable but I was hoping for a Bond film that was Casino Royale great. Oh well I'll be the judge of that once I see it this Fri or Sat.

The ratings have been mediocre, with one saying it's the worst Bond film in 30 years. It's only a few people and their reviews and whatnot but yeesh....worse that QOS? Worse than some of those Pierce Brosnan outings? As for the next Bond well....I'm not up to date on a crop of actors that could pull it off, but I'm always reminded of Lazenby and OHMSS. One of the best 007 films but wasn't accepted because of the lead actor.

I'm not sure anything is worse than QOS.

QOS would've been a great movie if in the 60s...but in the modern world that whole concept just seemed absurd.

I wouldn't want a black dude to be Bond.
I agree... It would be like getting a white dude to play the role of Martin Luther King.

That guy is on drugs because there's no way anything can top Die Another Day in awfulness.

I never saw a Bond film I disliked with the exception of that 1965 film starring Woody Allen. That movie sucked.
