It's something like Bama SOS remaining is 33. UCF is 73, I see that as a huge difference. Either way LSU (8-0), Miss St (4-5), West Car (2-7), and Auburn (7-2) is still a much tougher schedule than Tulsa (2-7), Tulane (6-3) and South Florida (4-4).
What is even funnier they only played two P5s and lost to half of them.

From my POV, people cherry pick whatever SOS method validates their perceptions and ignore it altogether when it doesn't. It seems to be used mostly to keep G5 teams out. That said, Alabama seems to be favored often when it matters and they don't have the SOS advantage. No matter where they place in the first poll tonight, they will rank much higher than most teams especially G5 teams with similar SOS numbers based on who they are. I get that is how beauty contests work but I think it is awful and that would be true even where UCF vs Ball State is concerned although nothing would be at stake in that scenario.

I agree with that. My only issue with threads like this is those arguing for the OP’s point tend to do it as well.

WRT Alabama, I don’t care about the rankings. Beat LSU, and we most likely are in Atlanta. Lose, and most likely we are out.

It's not about cherry picking stats. It's about knowing when one team is better than the other. We all know Bama is better than any G5 team. Dont give. Me the settle it on the field, we know they are better. Ohio State played three G5 teams this year that are either in 1st or tied for first in their conference. They beat the for a combined score of 163-26. Elite P5 teams get the benefit of the doubt because 99% of the time we know they are better.

Is that relevant to the discussion?
It’s more relevant than your incessant blathering about being the best team being only a competitive advantage in accomplishing the best score under the rules of your peculiar, sorry, your particular idea, and that we should ignore the fact that the Sun Belt and the SEC are worlds apart in absolute talent and intra-conference difficulty of schedule and adopt your relative proficiency model where an undefeated South Alabama could beat out a one loss or even undefeated Alabama. You know what? So far, Alabama has not shown they are one of the best teams in the country, based only on who they have played and beaten. This weekend will tell us a lot, LSU has played a better schedule and has more impressive wins, if Alabama wins, they almost certainly will go on to the SEC championship game, and if they win that, they will certainly go on to the playoff. If LSU wins this weekend, they will be the favorite to move on. All this whining about Alabama’s SOS is irrelevant, because this will all be sorted out shortly.

Oh, and unlike UCF, Alabama just doesn’t lose to unranked teams, even after having to constantly replace coaching staff and more players drafted in the first round of the NFL in the past 10 years than any other team. They just plug in new ones and continue to compete and win at the highest level. Teams like UCF? Not so much. They lose one player and they go from a team you and they pretend is playoff worthy to one that loses to unranked teams. Alabama is given the benefit of the doubt because they’ve earned it, year after year, and it remains to be seen if they are or not this year.

You misrepresent my idea and with rules, being better is just an advantage towards accomplishing what has value as a matter of fact. I'm not arguing that any G5 team is better than any particular P5 team or plays a more difficult schedule. Much of what you list only matters in beauty contest sports where the purpose is about proving something as a matter of opinion.

I prefer college football play by actual rules where only facts matter even if those facts don't always validate someone's opinion about matters the facts don't even actually address.

Competition is not about who is better.

I'll let him correct me if I'm wrong but I think it is about Alabama getting a pass on SOS because they are Alabama while SOS was used to dismiss UCF the previous two years. If UCF were unbeaten so far this year, would they be ranked higher than Alabama to date given their current schedules? Of course not. As such, people cherry pick when SOS matters.

Bama has a pretty weak schedule for a top team and P5 team but this is the year if they lose they should not be considered even with the other 1 loss teams for the CFP imo. They will still have to play 2 top 12 teams and likely another one in the SEC Championship if they beat LSU. Win out or go sit at home, that's how I see it. They will still have to earn it.

UCF plays in a non-P5 conference. They will never even be mentioned in the CFP discussion until they move to a P5...that's on them. Grow some balls and move to a P5, build a larger stadium and build your program up if you want respect.

Kind of reminds me of signing day - yo don’t ever know you have until you get then in a game and play some one.
Bama marquee game so far is ... I guess a$m.

Bama hasn’t really played a currently ranked team. No one really knows how great Bama is this year.
We r about to find out either how great Bama is, or if they are just a disguised Florida team.
