I was okay with MacDonald (young, did great things in Balti) but I wanted an offensive head coach. I remember posting on this forum, I wanted Johnson. He went back to Detroit so maybe he'd be a terrible head coach.. but I wanted an offensive guy.

Now that said, Mac has certainly evolved this defense.. but we can't sustain it with the inexperience and just horrible playcalling from someone like Grubb.

If you are going to find a good OC that isn't looking to be a HC, then you need to take a few risks.

I think Grubb had some growing pains but I also think that our complete lack of an effective running game, especially in short yardage situations, was a huge hindrance for Grubb.

I don't think we should fire Grubb this year. But I do think that Grubb needs to acknowledge his own growing pains.

Fun is not what I would call this season. I did enjoy getting to know Macdonald a bit, and I think he is going to be a very good NFL head coach, but I'm glad only 1 more game separates us from the off-season. All the offense's poor execution, 3rd down ineptitude, inability to run the ball or pass block, pre-snap penalties.... I just need a break. I'll be enjoying the playoffs just as a football fan with no white-knuckling, worry, or intense frustration at what I'm seeing.

IT was a frustrating year for sure. But I feel a lot more optimistic going forward than I have since 2020. Fixing the interior OL seems pretty doable whereas fixing our entire defense seemed like an impossibility during the later PC days.

Ya I can get behind that... but our offense is not JUST the OL.

Lockett is leaving, DK may be leaving, K9 is hardly reliable, Fant is gone (too much cap), Lucas may be a lost cause, Geno is getting older (and is serviceable but not elite).. and then you're bringing in another OC. A LOT is going to change on that offense.

Fixing the OLINE is do-able? Well because Haynes apparently was the stupidest pick of all time, you now need a LG, possibly C, RG, and possibly RT.. and then you have concerns about #2 WR (if JSN can be #1) and TE if we get a new OC that actually wants to use them.

The reason I say Grubb is gone, is Mac constantly kept emphasizing that you have to run the ball (course he had Lamar Jackson and the Ravens had the lead almost the entirety of his DC position), and Grubb just refused to. Of course there was some games where Seattle was down a couple scores, and Grubb had his hands tied.

I am of course nowhere near ready to move on from Grubb, but let's not forget the Ravens generally had the lead early in the game when Mac took over. Lamar kept things going.

I think one big problem with the OL has simply been a lack of consistency. Either through injury or departures. Honestly, if Olu can step up a bit next year, after half a season of starting, and we can get something out of Bradford/Haynes/Laumea then I think we should focus on a LG, preferably an experienced LG via FA.

I think Fant may wind up restructuring his contract. It is far from certain that we trade Metcalf.

I know that a lot of fans are unhappy that we didn't run more. But I think they also have distorted view of our running game. They will see a couple of big runs in a series and say that the running game is working while ignore the numerous negative or minimal gain runs that occur.

How many different times did we have 1nd and goal within the 5 and couldn't push the ball into the endzone? I think that Grubb had no faith in our running game.

Good to hear. This year is probably going to bring some changes (life/work) where I am, but we'll see.

Grubb's design of the running game isnt very good. There is a big tell when we run the ball and i was able to guess right at about a 90% clip on every run pass this season. Heck i was only fooled once and that was what a couple weeks ago.. I remember that it completely fooled me AND it was a very successful play. Way to often they were running into a loaded box so the defense knew a run was coming. Hawks played WAY WAY to much out of the shotgun so when Geno went under center it was another tell that there was a better than 70% chance they were going to run.

I say give the OC another year even though he stunk bad this year. He himself is learning how to do it in the NFL also. He needs to take this offseason and learn from his MANY mistakes and improve on it. Got to at least see if he can do that as thats the difference from a good OC and a bad one, Their ability to learn and adjust the plays to have more success and to better understand the "flow" of a NFL game. Something Grubb struggled with this season. He needs a better grasp on the running game and stop being so pass happy with a below average QB even if he has above average arm talent.

JS pisses me off BUT his last few drafts have been pretty good. We do need some better talent evaluation thats for sure but is JS the one doing it or is he just leaning on the scouts? Im sure the scouts are the ones JS is listening to and i doubt many are left from the Pete era.

You can argue that maybe his playcalling and design are a reason why the team struggles with early down running. But that isn't the biggest problem for the team. The biggest problem is in obvious running situations like goalline or short yardage in general. We are simply terrible in this area and HAVE been terrible for some time.

If the Seahawks had a play similar to the Eagles tush push that essentially worked 90% of the time on 1 or 2 yard to go situations, the Seahawks would have 11 wins right now. Easily.

True, but GOD I hate the term 'tush push'... ugh, that is the definition of the gayest term I've ever heard. Just call it "THE BUTTFUCKER" the "JAMMIN THE ROD" how about "ANAL EVACUATION!"

Tush push.. God I hate the NFL.

the only teams i see that have sustained success on short yardage is teams with big strong QB's or schemed plays that feel illegal ( Tush push ), OR the teams that spread it out making the defense Match their formation taking people out of the middle. Seattle for SOME REASON never do this and then run. In Highschool we had this play were the RB's would push the QB for short yardage and it drew a flag the first time we ran it. Something about using other players for leverage or "pushing". Thing is The NFL lifted its ban on pushing a ball carrier in 2005 and to be honest i hope they reinstate it. Like it or not this is using players for leverage and should be illegal.

Plus we would NEVER have to hear Tush push again!

You're not wrong on the run predictability but I wonder if the weak o-line had something to do with the dummying down the run calls.

I think its more that Grubb doesnt do it much and i feel he doesnt like calling runs at all. His running design is poor at best. Then when you look at Grubbs route trees he has the WR run and its like WTF! I will use a play from the Vikings game, It was 3rd and 5 or 6 yards to go and i think they were around the 35 or 45 on the Hawks side of the field we had 3 WR and a TE. EVERY WR went on a damn POST! WTF is that you only need 5 to 6 yards and you send EVERY WR on post patterns? What the actual fook! Because of them taking these "Longer" routes Geno was hit with pressure waiting for the routes to develope. Maybe they were trying to clear out the middle but NO TE went to the Middle. That should have been a quick pass not one of those that TAKES FOREVER.
