Why does the distance from your campus of an opponent matter? Isn't it the quality of the opponent rather than distance or time zones or state lines that actually matters?

I bet Alabama would be really tough even if our campus were only 20 miles away. I bet Kansas would be an easy opponent even if we played them in Outer Mongolia.

Because the travel can have an effect. Sure that sounds like an excuse, but that doesn’t make what I say false. Having to travel two hours for a game instead of two time zones is a far different situation a team prepares itself for. That’s why I say we have no clue how Texas or Florida would have done with each other’s schedule.

You’re looking at two extremes. If you had to travel to play California every other year to play FSU that would be far different that traveling two hours to play them. Surely you can see that.

I'm not one to defend our OOC schedule. Georgia also has the WLOCP and yet they usually schedule two P5s a year.

But the fact remains that Florida is usually hurt by their schedule.

Let's count the number of P5 nine + win teams each school plays since 2010 in the regular season:

Year-----------Florida---------Texas

2010......................5....................3
2011......................5....................4
2012......................6....................2
2013......................6....................3
2014......................4....................4
2015......................5....................5
2016......................2....................4
2017......................3....................4
2018......................3....................1

Total....................39..................30

Nine more good teams played in the regular season than Texas, plus one more in a CCG.

And yet Florida STILL has a better W/L record than Texas during that span.

Some teams have a beef. Texas does not.

Nearly Every single one of those wins save one for Florida State came in conference for UF. That’s not the argument.

Dontcha think West Virginia could schedule better OOC opponents? Since you joined the Big XII in 2012, you scheduled:

Year--------School--------W/L record

2012.............Maryland......4-8
2013.............Maryland......7-6
2014.............Alabama.....12-2
2014.............Maryland......7-6
2015.............Maryland......3-9
2016.............Mizzou.........4-8
2017.............Va Tech........9-4
2018.............Tennessee....5-7

Total...............................46-43

Take Bama and Virginia Tech out and your opponents are a combined 30-44 (.405). They are basically G5 teams.

You don't think at least three or four of these are equivalent to a G5 team? Never mind the fact you play Kansas every year, a team that lost 8 games to G5 opponents since 2010 and two games to FCS opponents?

Hell yeah they could, but I’m not the one here saying our OOC is good. If you had any sort of reading comprehension you would know that from this thread.

8 game conference schedule skews the data.

Agreed. Florida makes up for a relatively weak OOC schedule with an unusually strong conference schedule. There are no Kansas-type teams in the SEC or most other conferences, for that matter.

At least Florida plays one generally strong OOC opponent -- unlike some other SEC programs, as well as Texas and West Virginia...

Number of strong P5 OOC opponents (9+ wins) since 2010:

South Carolina..........10
Florida......................8
Auburn.....................6
Georgia....................5 plus 12-1 Boise State
LSU.........................5 if West Virginia counts as a P5 team with the Big East
Tennessee................4
Alabama...................3
Kentucky..................3
Vandy.......................3
Arkansas..................2
Ole Miss...................2 plus 12-2 Boise State
Miss state.................2
Mizzou......................2
Texas A&M................2

How about total number of P5 opponents?

Georgia....................14
South Carolina..........12
LSU.........................12
Florida.....................11
Auburn......................9
Tennessee..................9
Alabama....................9
Kentucky....................9
Mizzou.......................9
Vandy........................9
Arkansas....................6
Ole Miss.....................6
Texas A&M..................6
Miss state...................4

So as you can see, there are many teams in the SEC worse than Florida regarding either the number or quality of P5 OOC opponents. So why is this even brought up? Because Neilcar is obsessed with trolling Gator fans who can't resist the bait. It does nothing to enhance his position because his points are juvenile and simplistic.

And the laughable thing about his trolling is that his team is even WORSE at the very things he argues about. When a conference has Kansas in it, it is a poor G5 or even an FCS-level opponent...

No it doesn't. If anything, Texas should have an advantage. After all, they allegedly play more P5 opponents. The issue is that most of their P5 opponents aren't very good...

And why single out Florida? Why not hammer Bama for their weak OOC schedules?

Dude, you aren’t understanding my point. Calling UFs OOC schedule good is highly laughable. They have the benefit of having a rival 2 hours away that’s usually ranked. That’s it. An let’s not act as if Florida is continually looking for good OOC games. They get the benefit of a ranked FSU most years. That is the only reason they have anyone strong in their OOC schedule.

Again we are talking OOC schedule. The only reason people are in this thread hammering UF is because their fans are saying the OOC schedule is good. Jesus Christ you are acting like a gump when they cry that everyone’s against when someone says something against bama.

Firstly I think the whole argument that distance is important is bunk. You can hop on a jet and travel 2 time zones in 3-4 hours.

Secondly any advantage Florida would gain from traveling only 2 hours to Tally to play fsu would be completely cancelled out the very next year when fsu got an equal advantage by only traveling 2 hours to play Florida. So if you have a home and home contract then any advantage/disadvantage from distance would be completely equaled out after 2 years.

The lack of a 9 game conference schedule results in about 5-7 extra wins for the conference...which skews the data.

All that amounts to is some teams in the bottom half of the conference are able to scrape into a crappy bowl. It doesn't boost the teams in the top half of the conference - they'd win anyway either against that weaker conference team or a weak OOC opponent.
