End of season AP rankings. UF faced more teams that finished ranked and more that finished in the top 10 than anybody else by a long way. Not even counting one off bowl opponents - just regular opponents

Over the last 40 years UF faced:
LSU 40 times
UGA 40 times
Alabama 22 times
Auburn 29 times
Tennessee 30 times
miami 16 times
fsu 42 times

That's 219 games against 7 premier programs. Those programs have won 19 national titles over the last 40 years, and UF averaged 5 and a half games per season against that lineup.

Go around the rest of the country and look at how many games other teams have played against premier programs over that span. Its no coincidence that UF faced more final ranked and final top 10 than anybody else during that time.
I’d like to see number of final AP teams ranked but that would be a hard list to beat I’m sure.

I have it saved as far back as 1976. I made a mistake before. I said those programs listed before had won 19 national titles over the last 40 years. That was wrong. They've won 21 national titles over that time. I forgot Bama in 78 and 79.

Very impressive— in keeping with the topic of the thread —- how many of those teams played 2 FCS teams per year for 2 consecutive years??

Pretty impressive that even with all those ranked teams that USC still has a tougher schedule.

In any one given season? Sure its possible Southern Cal or somebody else might play a tougher. Over 40 years, Southern Cal is not close in terms of the number of final ranked or final top 10 or national champions faced.

Tougher overall SOS. The FCS opponents drag down Floridas ranking.

This year? Sure. That's possible depending on the formula. If we are to compare total ranked and total top 10 and total national champs played over 40 years or 30 or 20 its not even close. UF has played way more of those than Southern Cal.

I think that's why I said overall SOS, and not whatever other metric you came up with. Does Florida play more top 10 teams? Probably. They also play 2-3x the number of patsys that USC does, resulting in the lower SOS.

Different SOS formulas are going to assign different weights to various things. From my experience cupcakes don't matter. If you're any good at all, it really doesn't matter if the opponent is #68 or #117. You'll shitstomp either. Only quality opponents matter.

Florida has had a decent number of mediocre seasons where quality of opponent matters.

Florida was the winningest program in America from 1990 until 2010. Over the last 40 years Florida has the 11th highest winning percentage. Southern Cal has the 13th highest winning percentage over that time.

Does not refute anything I said. I'm sure FCS games help Florida out considerably.

and you can't refute anything I've said. I'm sure all those national champs, final top 10s and final ranked teams UF played over and above others including Southern Cal depressed UF's winning percentage considerably.....far more than the winning percentage beta between lower tier Division I opponents and I-AA opponents.

If USC replaced their weakest opponent with an FCS team this year they still wouldn't be bowl eligible, so what's your point?

So DR is suggesting that having every team in your conference playing a FCS team or even 2 FCS teams per year is normal.
