Archduke of Crosstown Busses
So what does he do to contribute to these wins?
2nd all-time in career YPA, 2nd all-time in career completion percentage, 5th all-time career QB rating
I’d call that contributing.
So what does he do to contribute to these wins?
Is Jameis Winston also a top 10 qb? Because the Saints were trash without him? Or is it because their backup qbs were THAT bad?
Without Kyle Shanahan I bet he's Jared Goff.If you replace Tannehill with Jimmy G, the Titans would've won. Basically the jist of it.
To be fair, he has showed up in those situations from time to time and not folded. Week 18 to get into the playoffs is a case in point. The problem is those times have been far less then the times you mentioned. He's in the 16 to 20 range.
If he stayed healthy the year the defense was decimated by injuries. His win/loss record would be much worse.
Niners win with a Great defense & running game & low turnovers. So he does his part. But dont expect him to put the team on his back & make a great comeback. Just like his last superbowl. momentum changes & he turns into a pumpkin. hell even in this last game Defense did their part & Special teams made the difference. Not Jimmy G. he is just a bus driver of an awesome Bus.
Exactly.QBs don’t single handily win games by themselves if they did then it would be a worthwhile stat.
true. but the same would be said about Trent Dilfer from time to time.To be fair, he has showed up in those situations from time to time and not folded. Week 18 to get into the playoffs is a case in point. The problem is those times have been far less then the times you mentioned.
Indeed, using wins to judge QBs would mean that QBs ( no matter how good they look or played) of non playoff teams couldn't even be considered good, due to a otherwise poor roster. It's a ludicrous concept in so many ways. Then to use the poor performance of a team with a sub standard back up as proof of the "greatness" of the starter, while disregarding the slew of other injuries on the team to boot he beyond ludicrous and is more straight out trolling for fun. AS some have mentioned Jimmy has had moments when he has shined, but they are so fleeting and rare especially while looking at the slew of games where it is obvious that the 49ers prefer hiding Jimmy and have him constantly handing off the football and when they allow him to pass typically it's designed to protect him from himself so you see Deebo catching screen passes behind the line of scrimmage with a wall of blockers to help spring him or a short pass to Kittle who can turn it into a big play.QBs don’t single handily win games by themselves if they did then it would be a worthwhile stat.
I think the issue is that the 11-15 range QBs arent really all that good, either. One last thing.
If his own team thought he was top ten. (or even close to it)
They wouldnt have been looking to replace him. He would get a franchise QB contract.
He is a journeyman quality QB & thats all.
That would land him in the 16-20 range. (bad Journeymen would be worse)
Without Kyle Shanahan I bet he's Jared Goff.
Interesting numbers about Shanahan, Jimmy G & the 49ers.
2017 they went 6-10. Jimmy G that year was 5-0.
2018 they went 4-12 (all around lousy year, Jimmy G was 1-2) he won 33% of his starts & the 49ers only won 25% of their games
2019 Jimmy G starts all 16 games & they go 13-3
2020 49er go 6-10, Jimmy G was 3-3
This season Jimmy G was 9-6, without him the 49ers were 1-1
