handle them differently, as far as divulging what is wrong & how long the player will be out. I guess its some kind of strategy, but it is frustrating as a fan. As a rangers fan, not one who has season tickets, but if i did , would not be happy not knowing who was going to be on the ice, esp. post for season play! We all have some sort of vested interest. We Ranger fans didn't know what really happened to zuccerello last year till the start of this year, said a prayer for him on the rumors, but......

I think it's mostly strategy. It used to be only once the playoffs came around, coaches got quiet, but now it's all year.

If you have a star that's not 100% and he demands to play you don't want the opponent to know what exactly is wrong. If the other team's sniper has a rib injury, opponents will try harder to hit them along the boards, etc.

Also a fair bit of posturing goes into it on the opposite end. You can say a player has a non-specific injury and then your opponent really doesn't know if they are ready and it creates matchup nightmares for the other coach.

Plus I am sure agents have a lbit to do with it. "My player is a year away from a UFA contract, don't you DARE say he has a gimpy groin".

"Upper body injury"

"Lower body injury"

An example of why they do this is what happened the other night....Stewart's broken jaw and he's back on the ice and four different guys went after him because you can't hide a broken jaw.

Well, it is true that MOST players can't hide a broken jaw.

With Chris Stewart it's harder to see his jaw region past the KFC double down, Big Mac or double Whopper that is almost always obscuring your view.
