Whether a team would trade for Mahle or not, is definitely something to consider. That would affect the return. However that might work out, you still won't see a veteran starting pitcher traded by a contender.
okay i see your point. just think Gray is the most logical trade piece we have with deGrom. Eovaldi, Bradford, Possibly Sasaki, Gray, Mahle, Rocker, Leiter, Dunning, and with Santos, Teodo, Rosario, Tiger, etc lurking in minors

I would not be surprised at all Gray being moved especially if we get Sasaki

I like Monty starting more than Gray but really doubt AZ can or will trade with us as they want more money for us to take on and doubt it if can make sense unless a 3rd club involved

Not a priority at this point

I am not sure how the Rangers feel about Mahle, but I like Gray more as a pitcher so I would trade Mahle if I had to trade one of the two. I am not even sure they feel they have to trade either one.

We could see one traded in a few days for bonus pool money. That would be a very good sign.

So much of all of this discussion will depend on their other plans. There is still a possibility they may want Gray as a late innings bullpen piece. Their plans for the back end of the pen will drive other decisions.

Not thinking Gray is enthused about the pen

The Reds have acquired Owen White for cash. Best wishes, Owen.

Dodgers have designated one of their top catching prospects, Diego Cartaya, for assignment, should we grab him?

Just not thinking Gray is enthused about the pen

I do think we sign a closer fairly soon after a few sign first
It was just in response to the question.

Has Gray stated that he's not enthusiastic about the pen or was it just something you had a gut feel for. It worked well for Eckersley.

he has said before he doesn't like working from the pen. he's done it but he says "i'm a starter first, last and forever"

I remember Michael Young not wanting to move to 3B and then especially to 1B.

When i heard his response, he sounded like he was not enthused about the idea, but then that was a media member asking him. After a talk with Bochy, Maddux, and CY, he might be persuaded. When asked about it a month ago, Bochy said he wanted Gray in the rotation. Of course, that was just before Eovaldi signed.

Lorenzen to the Royals.

1 year for $7 million with a mutual option for a second year at $12 million

And yes since then he has been mentioned as a rotation piece so yeah nothing heard directly so nor an assumption @WastinSomeTime

Fair question

I remember that and part of that was Soriano wanted to play 2nd and nowhere else. But later he's traded and played in the OF. We caved to Soriano.

From Shawn McFarland:

Martin is the 6th relief pitcher that the Rangers have either signed to a major league contract or traded for this offseason, joining:

- LHP Hoby Milner
- RHP Luis Curvelo
- LHP Robert Garcia
- RHP Jacob Webb
- RHP Shawn Armstrong

I guess one of those 6 guys will be our 8th inning guy. Hopefully, we sign a closer.

A closer would make 7 relievers.

Eovaldi, deGrom, Bradford, Mahle, Rocker, Gray, and Dunning gives us 7 more pirchers.

That is 14 pitchers. I guess Rocker goes to AAA to begin the season.

I guess Church and Pennington go to AAA as well.

One huge relief this offsrason is not having to go through the beat down of constantly hearing the media report on the possibility if Kershaw coming home to pitch.
