I would have flown him in Monday morning (10/2). Take him through a tour of the city in the afternoon. Then at night take him to MNF Seahawks vs Saints. Show him the 12th man and show him how passionate the people of seattle are for sports.

Tuesday will be steak dinner at El Gaucho or The Metropolitan Grill. Ken Griffey Jr. will be in attendance to pitch to Cano. He will talk about how he was a world wide icon and he played in Seattle. He will talk about how he still got a boat load of endorsements and signing deals even though he played in Seattle. Griffey was a world wide icon playing in Seattle, you can be one too.

After dinner before he leaves Seattle, take him to see Macklemore and The Blue Scholars perform live at Capitol Hill for a cano special block party.

Next morning, before he catches his flight. Throw him 7 years 215 mil and watch him gladly sign the contract.

Let's be serious. All Cano and JayZ care about is $$$$$$$. That's the only thing Z can use to sway Cano or JayZ.

The ONLY reason I think it's possible that the M's might "get" to overpay for Cano is this:

For the past couple of years, the Yanks have been steadfast and vocal about wanting to keep payroll under $189 million in order to avoid the luxury tax.

Since Cano said no to the Yanks offer, they just signed Jacoby Ellsbury for a lot, and also McCann.

Given those 2 monster signings, I don't think the Yanks will increase their offer, or they would have a terrible time staying within their budget.

We'll see soon enough if Cano wants to take less to stay with a perennial contender, or if he's willing to go to a baseball abyss for an outrageous contract where he's getting $28 million/year as a 40 year old.

If you were a GM how would you sway Cano to come to Seattle?

First I would build the team into a yearly contender. Then, and only then would I want such a high priced player on my team.

Otherwise, it is sort of a case of "putting all of your eggs in one basket".

This is how.....
Negotiations between second baseman Robinson Cano and the Seattle Mariners rallied to another level Thursday when the ballplayer took a private flight from New York to Seattle to talk personally with the club in the American League , a source told ESPNdeportes.com .

hoary
Cano
Could not determine the degree of closeness between the parties for a possible deal , but the source said the Mariners ESPNdeportes.com left Cano know who would be willing to pay between $ 230 and $ 240 million for the next 10 seasons .

It has been reported that Cano, who has played with the New York Yankees for his entire career , is seeking a 10-year contract and $ 250 and $ 260 million and the Yankees have not offered more than $ 170 million.

While New York is the winningest team in baseball history , Seattle does not advance to the postseason since 2001 and has never played in the World Series in its 37 year history.

Cano , 31 , is the best free agent available on the market. Second baseman finished fifth in voting for the MVP of the American League after hitting .307 with 27 homers and 107 RBIs. In nine seasons with the Yankees , Cano is batting .309 with 204 homers and 822 RBIs.

The five-time All-Star has received five Silver Sluggers and two Gold Gloves in his career.

Looks like between $230 and $240 million for 10 years is the offer.

Incredibly stupid. But the M's are indeed desperate.

if you are going to overpay, do it on the best out there....dont overpay 3-4 mediocre guys. Make a splash...hell do ANYTHING
Just don't trot out the same shit we had to endure last year.
i can see them signing Cano, trading for Kemp and then signing Garza or Jimenez.
THAT makes us instantly competitive.

When he meets Chuckie and Howie he will run to get on the plane, go to New York, sign with the Yankees. He will be speechless at the 2 idiots running this organization.

it was reported elsewhere that the M's offer was less than 200 million. Cano asked for 240

the best thing that can come from this is if by freeing up a player or 2 they might be able to offer a package for price that does not include walker.
