trading awful contracts for eachother for guys that have the same amount of years--- ESPECIALLY for a guy like Leonard who is going to be a deep deep bench player at BEST

There is no way in hell you couldve offloaded 27M of Whiteside for a single first rounder---- they basically had to split his contract into 2 smaller pieces to get a team to take half of it.

and NO one was happier than Spoelstra to see that bag of shit leave. lol

Why didnt they take a flyer with Giannis?

The ultimate point here though is that in order to move Whiteside's bad contract, Miami had to attach a first rounder just to take back another questionable contract that's still pretty bad in Meyers Leonard.

It probably don't mean too much in the long run (other than the fact that the cHeat will have limited draft capital for the foreseeable future)... It is, however, reflective on just how reckless that particular franchise had spent on just OK players.

Wiggy is 100% right in that Miami landed Butler in spite of Whiteside's contract and not because of it.

i gotta tell ya, during the deadest sports week of the year, to see the Heat unceremoniously dump Whiteside and have his ineffective, disappointing tenure come to a close ----- and to see them lock in another irrelevant season has been rather fun to watch.

Philly was more than willing to let Butler walk to Miami strictly for Josh Richardson and not have any picks involved. It was not that simple, however, because Miami had too much dead salary stored in-house.

If you are still rehashing moves from 3 years ago, and saying they might have had cap space if they signed other players, then yes, you would be correct.
But life doesnt work that way.
So, end of the day, it was a better move for the Heat to make the Portland trade and then the Clipper trade to clear space vs give Dallas what they wanted, or move Dragic.

It was a good move but irrelevant to this discussion. Whiteside was not an asset. He was an obstacle to get Butler.
