Looks like the Kubina move is sooner than later. I understand wanting to protect the player...but sheesh, sometimes these talks take awhile, not like it's the 27th and he's running out of time.

Oilers general manager Steve Tambellini said. "If it's something we feel will make us significantly better, long-term and short-term, of course we'll consider it.

"But nothing for just a short-term gain.
"

lol. so, let me get this straight.... you're NOT going for a Cup run this year Steve? :der:

They're building something special up in Edmonton, puck, and that's the best word to describe the management team.

The Bolts probably want a G prospect in return, no?

i think teams have contacted the Bolts enough to spur this movement. Yzerman then took the lists to Kubina and asked for what teams he would be interested in as he has the NTC.

I bet its

Rangers
Canucks
Blackhawks
Penguins
Flyers

at the top of this list.

WOW! He's only at 3.85 mill! This is a possibility for the Pens then. I have a feeling the Bolts will want 1 NHLer, 1 prospect, 1 mid round pick. That'll be the starting point at least.

BTW, the only name I've seen pop up on twitter in regard to him is the Sharks.

Does anyone else sort of find this bizarre? They've basically said a deal isn't close yet, but he'll be a healthy scratch until dealt...

only thing I can think of:

people know what they get in Kubina.
if the decision is made to move him, the worst risk to TB is him getting hurt before they get assets for him.

TB is not making the dance, so losing any points in the meantime only helps draft position
in other words, they have officially thrown in the towel.

imo, not at all bizarre ... Tbay has given up ... why risk the health of the asset like Carolina did with Ruutu

Kubina is out of shape and getting slower by the minute.

Still has a spot with some D partners but I would trade more than a 2nd rounder for the guy.

Sure you would. There's no way in hell Yzerman says yes to it though.

I'd do it if I was Yzerman.

Ballard just hasn't fit in in Vancouver; I think he could still play decently down the road. Yzerman might as for a 2nd rounder to take on a cap hit like that but next year Ballard is going to be a better player than Kubina and the future is all that counts for the Bolts right now.
