I think we can stop pretending the Apple Cup is some big showdown in the Pac north, for the time being anyway. Every year we act all nervous about it, cougs got a lot to play for, cougs would love to ruin our season, they're real good with improved defense and rushing game, :blah:. I'll believe Leache's bullshit can beat, or even play with this current set up we got when I see it.

Lol I've actually thought the Cougs would either win or put up a fight the past two years. Thought last night would either be close or a Coug win.

They didn't need him, but he hasn't been impressive lately. He hasn't really had the anticipation he had last year. That could be a result of not having the weapons he had last year, or because maybe his arm isn't what it used to be.
I really don't think it's anything more or less than not having a freak of nature in Ross to chuck it to when he's in trouble. If you went back and watched every touchdown pass from last year I bet you'll find a significamt number of them were a far from perfect throw down field and Ross bailing him out. I can think of a few off the top of my head. On top of that Ross obviously opened things up to spread it around more too. He's still making some throws, but when he doesn't it's more noticeble with no one to bail him out.

I suppose my concern is more about the passing game. Browning won't have Ross or Pettis next year.

No but I believe this coaching staff will find talent. The huge thing about recruit for UW football is the track team draws a lot of interest, and I believe that helps the football program for these fast two sport kids.

I did love seeing Jake not giving up on plays, two shuttle passes last night. To me that tells me he's giving everything he can to help this team win.

We've recruited pretty well at WR the past two years, we just have to hope they do well. Just don't wanna have to rely on freshmen.

And if you want to be looking at a prime example of where this program should be, look at Bama. I know everyone hates them, but they win, year in and year out! They are a psychical defense, and their QB's manage the game.

Four years in now with coach Pete, two seasons now 10 win seasons, a play off appearance, and a Pac12 title, plus a program that is squeaky clean and putting kids in the NFL, to me this thing is fast tracking and is a matter of time when ESPN is licking Pac 12 sack instead of SEC

Easy way to make mistakes though. Like that sack he took against Stanford when he was trying to be Russell Wilson.

I don't think anyone can question his drive, competiveness or toughness. We needed that Utah comeback earlier in the year to give the team the confidence needed for a championship run.

Again relying on freshman is the norm now, kids don't want to come sit out a year at a school. It's a business to some of these kids now, the days of redshirting a whole recruiting class is gone. And as an old guy that is hard for me to say and understand, but I do, its the new way of college football life.

Yeah but did he give up all those points to a "boring" Stanford offense? No.
It was whole team let down, coaches failing to have a better game plan and letting UW players understand that they embarrassed a very good program last year on National TV, and they would come out with a chip on their shoulders....

Yeah, but sometimes learning routes and the playbook is difficult for many at the next level. Take a look at Golden Tate, he was actually inactive for many Seahawks games, mostly because he had difficult learning an NFL playbook and running routes at that level.

There are some positions I don't mind a freshman at, but it seems there really is a learning curve with WRs when you go from HS to college football, then college football to the NFL. There are probably a number of examples you can give, but in the aggregate, generally freshman don't succeed, similar to how rookie WRs take a year or two to really hit their stride.

I was just mostly giving an example of when he tried to make a play and it didn't end well. That sack didn't lose the game, obviously, but sometimes it's better just throwing the ball away.

Jesus, poor Jake can't win. Team completely controls the game on the ground, he's just a game manager, the plays he did make were too risky.

Agreed! They should've have learned that they were coming into the season with a bulls eye on their backs!
Defending champs, everyone wants what they had. or to make damn sure they didn't repeat.

Yeah, and he was very good last year with that, maybe he's listen to fans bitch about his play and he is and does press just a little to much now...

I agree. I have concerns about the passing game in general, but he is definitely a competitor. His records at UW and in high school definitely confirm that.

Jokes aside, that's a valid point. Maybe he's trying to do more than he can. People always talk about him not being athletic, but he has made plays with his legs when he has needed to.

I think my bigger concern is that he has suffered without Ross. I hope someone is able to step up next year. We still have a game left, and the injury Pettis suffered didn't look good. Idk what it showed on TV, but he was on the field for a long time. I was really happy he was able to walk off the field (with support). Was talking to the guys next to me saying that I hope it wasn't an ACL because I wouldn't want his future NFL career to be damaged. I had more concern about Pettis than I did the loss to the Husky offense. He's a good kid and has done a lot for our program.

Here is a prime example of where this program is:

Last night Cougs fans thought this was their "turning the corner" for the program. They would walk in last night win and go play for their first title. Well Dawgs did exactly what Stanford did to them, they turned this into a personal battle and was not going to let the Cougs come in here and make history on their field. they took their best asset on offense, running game and playing a bend but don't break defense and sticking it to them.

I'm happy with the win, but I almost feel bad for Coug fans lol. They're going to have to deal with a hangover, the loss, and knowing they're going to have to go back to Pullman.

Hell, I have a blistering hangover and woke up at 5 because of it. Can't imagine how bad that would be if I knew we lost.
