The Shallows (2016)
I'd give this movie an B+ for entertainment, but an F for practicality. Too many far-fetched circumstances that I couldn't go along with. Shark is the size of a 1-ton truck, chomps into her leg multiple times, yet she only has 2 lacerations on her leg about 8-10inches long? The shark doesn't show it's dorsal fin in low tide, but somehow does in high tide long enough for her to time it's laps around her? How convenient that she had a med school background. Somehow after a full day of no food or water and continuous bleeding, she still manages to have enough power to out-swim the shark? The shark can mow through hardened steel like a hot knife through butter without harming itself? Not to mention how she ultimately defeats the shark was a pretty ridiculous idea. I'm sure there were many more problems that i found with the movie, but I think you get the picture. This movie was made for cheap thrills, not realism. But I did find the movie to be entertaining nonetheless. The movie did a good job at keeping a solid storyline with heightened suspense. Blake Lively did an alright job, nothing stellar. The cinematography and score were a perfect fit. Nothing too over the top. Overall this movie was worth the watch, but its nothing to write home about.
Decent entertainment, but far from realistic... 7/10
Watch yourself! I'm not about ratings myself, but I do think its a good way to promote activity & participation within the thread. That's it, that's all!Are you trying to turn the Horror thread into the Doobs show, @FaCe-LeE-uS?
Liking all my comments????
You couldn't pay me to watch the Ruins again. Go with Mad Max!

I couldn't get past the idea of plants being the antagonist... Seemed too silly to me. That being said, I did find the infection-esque deaths to be pretty cool. The way the vines grew out of the limbs was pretty gnarly lookin. Aside from that, the characters pissed me off.Seriously?
I read the book and watched The Ruins when it came out. I liked it.
Great analysis Chef!Would You Rather is sick, twisted and well worth watching. If you're looking for a story that makes sense, you can probably pass...but we can say that about a lot of horror movies. @FaCe-LeE-uS has already covered the plot, so I'll just add my own little tidbits:
It has the look and feel of the better horror flicks made in the 70s and 80s; cheesy, but not too much (just a whiff).
It is pure psychological horror; there are no monsters, no heads being lopped off...but the tension and anticipation of what is going to happen next is riveting. That said, I predicted the 'twist' ending without much trouble.
Added B-Actor Bonus: Darnell (Crab Man) from My Name is Earl; Bob ("Tainted meat!") from The Walking Dead
BoobMeter: zero
Conclusion: A "What if Alfred Hitchcock directed Saw?" vibe goin' on here. Far fetched, but worth checking out.
