I think there is a difference between not agreeing with something and giving 2 million dollars a year to groups that oppose that something. In my opinion its not just being opposed to it, its actively being against it. That is their right to do, just like its people's right to speak against it.

Amen.

I will never understand why people even care. I honestly could care less who people marry. The only persons I care who marry who are my sons. Oh and I guess I would care if my husband married another man, that I might have a problem with.

Hell, Jeff could marry a farm animal tomorrow and I wouldn't give a shit.

I do not hate you, I just don't agree with almost everything you believe. :p
Plus you're fun to pick on, 'cause you are not a big baby (most of the time) and can dish it out as well as take it.

BTW, for those people who are outraged by the fact that this company donated to a group who opposes gay marriage, would you like me to list the corporations that donate money to Mitt Romney, or any number of like 75 senators and 300 congressmen?

Turn off your comcast, verizon, directv, t mobile, at&t stuff.

Quit eating anything made by general mills, kraft/nabisco, kelloggs etc.....

I am amused at the outrage really. People are so ignorant as to what they support with their dollars, but something like this outrages them.

I don't think it's really ignorance. First, I think there is a difference between supporting a Congressman who has one view (out of many) of a cause you disagree with and supporting an organization who has an agenda on a specific issue or a narrow field of issues. Second, no, I don't have time to research the political leanings of every business and product I buy. Third, Chick-Fil-A has separated themselves from some of those other groups by not just donating to organizations with a specific agenda, but actually making a statement that says, more or less, gay marriage is wrong and against what God wants.

So, I don't think it's ignorance, it's an opportunity. Chick-Fil-A came out and made a statement and people reacted to it. And even if all those other organizations do very anti-gay things, this is nevertheless a chance for the gay community and their supporters to draw attention to the issue and show the public does not agree with the Cathy family. For those in support of gay marriage/civil unions, it's a political opportunity and from what I can see, it's been quite effective in elevating the issue since my Facebook page is littered with anti-Chick-Fil-A stuff right now from gay and straight friends alike.

He was opposed to gay marriage until then.

I know, I know. It was a joke. He did support civil unions though prior to that, which is about equity, which is the most important part of the issue. There are political reasons behind what he did. I know you understand that.

I support gay marriage, but this is a stupid ass battle that they have waged. Keep boycotting the place while stepping on kids faces with those Nikes you all are wearing....idiots.

People contrive outrage in this country so well, we should bottle it and sell it.

"I am OUTRAGED that you disagree witth me!!!!!" WTF ever....

Pick your battles.

This is so stupid and hurts the cause by making the pro-gay marriage people look like zealots.

I think Chick-Fil-A is more pro-Christian than it is anti-gay. Of course, it all depends on the lens we each use to view things. I've seen lots of stuff being said and posted (not really in this thread but on facebook, etc.) that is pretty anti-Christian. Others would maybe see it differently. The anti-Christian stuff I see truly does seem to be caused by ignorance. I always found it odd (hypocritcal) for people to combat supposed intolerance and bigotry with their own intolerance and bigotry. Again, this isn't aimed at anyone here but is just based off things I've seen in every day life recently.

If they refused to serve gays or any other customers because of their beliefs I'd have a problem with it. I don't have a problem with a person that has an opinion that they're entitled to.

I haven't seen any of that (link?). I've just seen people annoyed with Chick-Fil-A's position, and not really "outraged" either, 46. People aren't throwing napalm bottles into Chick-Fil-A restaurants, it's just more like...

"hey, let's not eat there."
"Yeah, I agree with you, cool. Let's go to Taco Bell."
"Awesome, their food is much more falic so I'm sure they are pro-gay"
"Cool."
"Cool."

I don't see manufactured outrage or people raging against "the Church" itself, I mostly just see statements and opinions. This is classic agenda-setting, and without agenda-setting, you don't get to policy change.
