Have we not learned our lessons people about hyping up QB's as elite after their first season?

This is probably more directed at the media and not Chiefs fans because to be honest I can't seem to recall a Chiefs fans being obnoxious about Mahomes at all.

I watched the Chiefs game Monday night and I have to say that I am very impressed with what I saw from Mahomes. If he contined playing like this he is going to be an HOF QB and that is not even debatable.........BUT.......

We have been here before. RGIII.....Dak......Jimmy G.....but to Jimmy G's defense he suffered an injury and the jury will still be out on him.

It seems like ever season we have this dynamic rookie (or first year starting) QB that is taking the league by storm. Everyone is hyping them up and the a couple years later we are wondering what the fuck happened to them.

Enjoy the ride Chiefs fans. This kid has been amazing. I am beginning to wonder if he does not have the strongest arm in the NFL. I am really rooting for this kid though but I am going to pause and wait and see what happens when there is plenty of film.

That "Moose's Turd" guy has been pretty vocal about Mahomes, but he doesn't normally rise to the level of obnoxious

Chiefs fans have actually been pretty cool about it. I think it is the media that is going overboard but then again can you really blame them? Every time I look around there some media hype about Mahomes. If you have not seen a single Chiefs game and then looked at highlights and the stat sheet you would think that Mahomes it the best QB in the NFL and front runner for MVP. After the first half of the season you would probably be right. Watching the game Monday I was truly impressed. When he made that left hand pass I said to myself you have got to be fucking kidding me. That was a football play. I am still stunned he made that play.

Mahomes is playing legitimately well, but he's obviously not throwing 0 INT's either and I am guessing he won't have a career TD% at 10 or so.

I have a hard time figuring out where the expectation is at the same time for him. He has almost zero physical limitations outside of elite mobility and his offense is pretty close to loaded at every position when healthy. I can't really find a good precedent for that. Only first year starter that really compares is Marino, and the fact I typed Marino, with a straight face, should kind of illustrate just how wacky this start has been for Mahomes.

I am pretty happy. Would be a fool to make any sweeping dispositive claims for his career, but it looks very promising for this season and the near-term.

With the AFCW looking kinda shaky and Rivers old, it sets up nicely. Can't count any chickens just yet- but the sun couldn't be brighter.

One of the local news channels up here showed that play, the sports dude was going on and on about it. I was kinda like "meh."

The thing I like about Mahomes is that he can make all the throws giving how strong his arm is. Dak is not known for his arm strength and teams can scheme through that. You can't do that with Mahomes. When you look at Chief film and their offense you will not find a throw he can't make. RGIII was a runner first before a passer IMO.

The throw itself may not be all that impressive but the through process was IMO. Many rookies panic there but was always looking down field to make a play while escaping pressure.

This is true. Good thing for him it worked out, otherwise were here discussing what a stupid rookie mistake he made by not just throwing the ball away

Another example of getting ahead of ourselves seems to be Wentz from last year in year 2. Surprised the Philly fans left that one out.:nono:

On Mahomes. Kid just seems to have something special. Looks like the best young QB in the league and by quite a lot right now. Easily league MVP at the Qtr pole...

The NFL always figures a way to beat a guy, defenses are to good. They will figure out Mahomes and he will become a very good QB vs a Great one like he is now.

In this day and age of Sports Media running 24/7/365 they need to have stuff to talk about and this is a good story so they will always hype these things up.

Wentz was not hyped as the second coming like Dak was. Many of us myself included said that Wentz was better than Dak and that Dak was a product of his supporting cast and with Zeke he would not perform. All that has been proven. The QB's I mentioned (except Jimmy G as he got hurt) regressed and did not get better unlike Wentz.

Now that the trigger is now in place watch this thread go in a completely different direction than intended. :L

Come on, that's Bull Shit. Wentz was much more hyped coming into year 1 than Dak being a top 2 pick versus a 4th rounder and much, much more hyped after his break through year last year than anyone else on your list after their break through year. Yes his was year 2, but Mahomes is in year 2 and Jimmy G was in like year 4 and had started about 4 games.

Right now Mahomes looks A LOT better than all of them. But, of course time will tell.

This.

Once defenses figure out how to defend him, we'll be able to tell how good he really is.

That spontaneous left hand throw with Von Miller hanging off him was outstanding.

I got to see him up close and this kid's the real deal, IMO. Sure he won't project the numbers forever but he's going to be a franchise quarterback if I ever saw one. Sucks that my team is going to have to face this guy twice a year for the next decade or more.
