He might not have a scholarship in NOV? that is weak.. THe whole thing reads like "he had a bad senior year, so Harbs pulled his scholly". It is a surprisingly weak defense considering it is comng from a pro-Michigan source
Maybe. But, no one associated with Michigan football can say ANYTHING about the Swenson matter at this point. They are prohibited from comment by the NCAA.
What was the tweet the kid made about the offer from Harbs? Thats sounds like he basically said he wanted him. So the "its a Hoke recruit" sounds like bunk.Maybe. But, no one associated with Michigan football can say ANYTHING about the Swenson matter at this point. They are prohibited from comment by the NCAA.
I am sure they talk with the staff. If Harbs told him when he took the job that he will re-evaluate all of the 2016 scholarships and he no longer has a scholarship it would be one thing. Even that is a bit sketchy, but understandable. In that case the coach and the player share risk. Harbs waited until 4 weeks prior to signing date according to a pro-Michigan site. He maintained his option throughout the recruiting season and when the picture was clear he cut the kid. That is scummy
If this is true, then it makes the situation much more understandable and I can't blame Harbaugh for moving on.rom what I heard out of a friend and booster is...
Swenson has not had a great senior season and the UofM staff told him what he needed to work on. They even invited him/told that he needed to come to the UofM camp so they could work with him and evaluate him. He declined.
The staff then told him that he should take his recruiting visits...hint hint! And for a kid that committed under an old coach he never took his official visit. You would think he would have wanted to introduce himself to Harbaugh.
Now the kid is wondering why when he was basically told get yourself better and here is what we want you to do.
So Michigan pulls a 4 star kids schools and flips a three star kid. Not really a huge difference for the grief so this tells me Swenson has been acting a little entitled and thought an offer was good regardless of his development.
But here is what is really funny.....
You want to play with Alabama, LSU, OSU you need to be business like when it comes to recruiting. I knew old school UofM fans would have trouble with this and over signing but their is a cost to be a yearly contender.
If this is true, then it makes the situation much more understandable and I can't blame Harbaugh for moving on.
I never blamed him to begin with.
But if it was someone else doing it, all these Michigan fans would be all over it regardless of the situation. I've been told I don't know how many times that coaches "should be stuck with who they recruit".
Michigan fans have looked down their noses at the "slimy" tactics of Nick Saban and Urban Myer, claiming that Michighan would never stoop to such things. It's funny how the worm has turned and they are jumping to Harbaugh's defense for doing essentially the same things (medical hardships, not renewing 5th year seniors, processing kids out of the program and now dropping longstanding commits).I don't believe that. If it was OSU or MSU I could see Michigan fans being unreasonable about it. Maybe even if it was Alabama because Alabama is on top, comes with the territory. But I wouldn't think Michigan fans would be bitching about, say, Oklahoma State or Miami doing this. Same time if OK State or Miami did this it wouldn't be getting as much press.

You're right. No one notices Oklahoma State, but that was not @4down20 's point. It was a nice deflection, however.
Since no one bothered to respond to this, I will post this again in response:You are right, Cwerph. Most Michigan fans don't like "slimy" tactics--especially from their own HC. They want their football program to do things the "right" way and win fair and square. But, we won't ever know what really happened in Swenson's case because Michigan is barred from discussing it. All you have for "evidence" is the word of a butt-hurt 18-year-old, and that's certainly reliable. Right?
If what @jdwills126 said is true, I can actually see why it happened. It sounds like they gave him an ultimatum and he didn't hold up to his end of the deal. I'm sure it was a committable offer at one point, but if they told him that he needs to work on certain things and he just ignored them, it sounds like they had no choice.Since no one bothered to respond to this, I will post this again in response:
If the offer wasn't "commitable" then they should not have accepted and celebrated their commitments (the article talks not only about Swenson but also 2 other commits given the heave-ho in the past week or so).
Behind the scenes I watch what goes on at Ohio State where the insiders regularly say that "so and so" wants to commit but is told they need to wait to see if the numbers work out. They are in on a national kid right now who is in this exact position. They don't want to accept a commitment if they don't know there will be a spot for him.

I can't think of a single time when Urban offered a kid to play at Ohio State, or had an existing commitment, only to pull his scholarship out of thin air. Now, it doesn't sound like that's quite what happened with Swenson, but nothing like that happened with OSU. There was the DB commit we had that didn't get cleared by OSU coaches, but that was at least merited.I saw this post yesterday. Let me get this straight: You are saying that Meyer and Ohio State don't accept commitments and then rescind them. Riiiiiight.
Again, remember that only one side of this situation is currently being heard.
As for the two other commitments, they re-opened their recruitments themselves. Perhaps they saw the writing on the wall. Again, no one knows what really happened.
