Posted in the other offseason thread yesterday. It could mean a lot of things. Possibly Niity wants to go somewhere where he could at least compete for a starting position. It also makes one of Sateri or Stalock a tradeable asset if the other team is looking for a top goalie prospect. Right now it's anyones guess as to Dougies motives for this signing.

Last report I saw said he had full feeling and full movement but they are giving it extra time to heal. It sounded like the schedule for him was to start workouts sometime in September and back on the ice for game action around November or December.

I don't think that there is a big goalie market out there right now. I don't see Stalock or Sateri bringing back a whole lot. Maybe as part of a package.

I wouldn't mind seeing Nitty traded just for the cap space.

Can anybody explain to me the ramifications of a buyout? If the Sharks buy out Nitty, how will it affect our cap and how long? Does anybody see Nitty being bought out and does it even make sense since he only has one year left on his contract? Thanks

Unless the Sharks have a player going to arbitration that I don't know about their chance to buyout Niitty has passed.

If they had bought him out they would have had to pay 2/3rds of his salary. ($1.333m) The cap hit penality would have been split evenly between this year and next. So $667k each year.

It really wouldnt be saving much honestly the cost it would take to buy him out and the cost to have a guy up to replace him will pretty much be a wash. Trading is pretty much the only option at this point

Right on, thanks fellas. If Dougie can find a trade partner for Nitty, this off-season would be a huge success. But of course the bottom 6 forwards need to be filled up too.

I think he has Handzus in mind to center the 3rd line. I'd guess anyway. He may want another top 6 forward though to drop Pavs down to the 3rd line.
