I don't know how this happens. Seattle over the cap. Rumor has it they have to release a couple guys to make this happen after they sign Wilson.

Damn it.

Before this move and the wilson extension, seattle was like 20 million under the cap. They are just fine.

Unger is a great center when healthy. Problem he has been hurt at some point every year. I wish him well

Graham is a net +3.5M this year with the release of Unger. Seattle will prob. save $1.5M from not having a first round pick so it's a net -2M or so cap hit.

That puts them around 18M cap with the Cary Williams signing. They are not over the cap.

I stepped away from the computer for an hour and there were 3 league altering trades....this one being by far the biggest. God damn!

Kudos to Seattle for finding a way to improve rather than just standing pat with a team coming off two SB appearances.

No kidding. Crazy how all that shit went down at once.

Word right now Seattle will have to find away to clear a lot to sign Wilson. Jimmy Graham is a great signing but some players will get cut. I wonder who they cut. Also Their weak link was Oline and now they lost a top player on that Oline.

Max played in 6 games last year. JG played in 16 games last year.

There is a difference though in playing at a high level in those games. I would say Graham actually was a big part of the offense in only about 5 of the games this past season because of his injury and OL issues for the Saints. Unger while only playing in a handful of games I would say had 5 high quality games as a blocker.

We shall see what all happens in this trade but I do think both teams got quality players and the Saints have a chance to really maximize this if they can actually get a quality player with the 31st pick.

Decent trade for both teams. For the Saints the Graham contract with all the signing bonus money was going to get huge. They will still have to pay more on it this year which is why this could actually hurt them this year cap wise. In return though they get to work on the OL that was one of the major issues this past season. They add a guy if he can stay healthy that can play at an All-Pro level plus now have 2 1st round picks that they can really be aggressive in the draft.

I don't understand why a team like the Saints do this trade. You don't trade a 28 super star difference maker who dictates coverages and makes life on your QB a hell of a lot easier even when you don't throw the ball his way.

Seattle $12M under the cap adding JG's $, subtracting MU's$, and adding Max' 1 year dead cap charge of $1M.

I wonder if there was still some bad blood between the Saints and Graham after last year's tagging fight that lead to this point.

Nope Jimmy makes 10 Mill. Yes they have 10 Mill left in Cap but Wilson will make 20 mill so that will put them over.

Well I think teams are figuring out that Dallas might have been on to something when you have a pocket passer that building the OL is more important than surrounding them with weapons on the outside.

Throw in while the Saints will have to pay some of the bonus money this year next year they see a bit help in the Salary Cap by not having to pay Graham. This also gives them some freedom now having 2 1st round picks. They can easily work that to not only pick up a decent TE to replace Graham with in the 1st 2 rounds of the draft but also possibly trade back and fill out the roster with more draft picks making their cap issues slowly start to disappear.

More than enough to sign Wilson, who will have a 1st year number below 10MM.

Not entirely true. They get to take the Unger contract off the books and he was scheduled to make something like $6.1 million this year against the cap. Throw in then the contract to have to pay a 1st round pick which is about $1.2 million. So in reality The Saints are picking up about $7.3 million in cap money they will have to pay. So the Seahawks in reality are only picking up around $2.7 million in extra cap money spent with this deal.

Dumb trade by the Saints. At least trade him to the AFC and get more then late 1st rd pick.

Nope. Usually 1st year contracts are very small cap hits. It's subsequent years where his numbers will be around 20MM, but with the cap going up, hopefully that won't be a problem. And, JG has no guarenteed money after this year, so Seattle can cut him if we need the cap room.

Why are you arguing with Seattle fans who obviously keep track of this sort of thing? Also Seattle wouldn't make this trade unless they had enough money to sign Wilson
