"Is Magadan responsible for each of their struggles? Nope. Each is a proven veteran who knows every nuance of his own swing."

So then what's the point of a hitting coach?
Yes, why does every club waste money on a hitting coach if they have no influence? Maybe they have different levels of influence, but to me Magadan is as bad of an influence as Jaramillo was as a good influence.

If Jaramillo were here there would be some hope of improvememt.

I just simply do not understand the media's standpoint of "the hitting coach is not blame for the struggles of the offense. but he'll be blamed, and that's not fair."

Why is that not fair? Explain to me what Magadan's responsibilities are then, and how he's insusceptible to blame. Don't just say "the hitters aren't executing."

He won't be 29 until late this season, and he's only had about 800 AB at the ML level. So maybe/hopefully he's a late bloomer. Happened before.

And EG is on Norm's show next if you're interested.
That would be about right. He becomes a late bloomer for us in a year where it really doesn't help much and then he leaves in free agency at the end of this year.

I actually think he is just putting together a streak like Dave Hostetler once did. Dave had an amazing streak that covered about 46 at bats where he had an OPS right about where Blanks is in his last 23 at bats. We all thought Dave was the next big star in town.

We have such fond memories of Rudy, and that's great. But do note, he went to the Cubs after Arlington and they were terrible when he got there, and stayed that way until he was fired.

He's been available since late 2012 and no one offered him employment.

I was in Memphis when he played 1st there, and I sure hoped he turn out better at the next level than he did.

But he's a great guy - did some work with him many years ago - and he has a fantastic job and my guess is, rolling in money. So good for him.

He laughed about how bad the Rangers were when he was here, and took some of the blame for it too. hahaha
And he swore the best team he ever played for in his baseball life was the AAA team in Memphis. Since we had Gary Carter, Charlie Lee, and Tim Raines, I could see where he was coming from.

Who do you have in mind that is readily available to step in and do the job. UIF are not easy to acquire which is why Rosales is around. If Profar returns, Then Fields may be the man.

Good question and even better observation, IMO anyway.

Don't know why everyone is so worked up about "what a waste" this guy is, when he's actually a UIF for a reason. He's not terrific, or he wouldn't be a UIF to begin with folks.

But that said, 3 teams have thought enough of him to keep him around for 8 years. And his LT BA is .224. Again, he's a UIF and as DT said, these guys are hard to find.

but at the same time he set a record for being DFA'ed 3 times in 11 days by the A's then the Rangers and then again by the A's only to be picked up by the Rangers again.

He keeps getting picked up because as explained already UIF are not found on street corners. Why he was DFA'd IDK.

I would take him back in a heartbeat, but I don't think he fits in with the hitting philosophy fad that so many are trying today. He is not really a work the count type of hitting instructor.

Your fact is correct. But it has absolutely nothing to do with much of anything. Wasn't at all what we were discussing.

Scotty -- if he could hit he wouldn't be a UIF.

This is from post #347 earlier today.

Appears we're on the same page.

Only if Performance Enhancing Drugs come with him and add the Jet Stream with his upper cut swing. I know I will catch flak but lets face it, Juan Gone, Raffy, even my favorite Pudge were dealing in the stuff. Once that started to die down so did Rudy. The only hitting coach I really like was Hurdle. And once again it was because he had a PLAN.
