Dolphins have also given Howard assurances that they’ll revisit the deal early in 2022 to bring it in line with the market should Howard be both healthy and productive this season

I think Gilmore is worth 12.750M as long as he can play. I'd give him $13M next year if he plays 17+ games this year.

There in lies the problem. Gilmore can't get on the field. Pay him the $7M if he can't play and be done with him.

Gotta play if you want the pay.

He's got to agree to incentives. Give him a small bump in guaranteed and the rest in incentives.

I would rather he cover their guys than our guys. He is still one of the best and makes the Pats a better team when he is on the field.

I agree give a guaranteed amount of cash + incentives see what becomes of that. He may know his game has dropped off though so incentives may not a point of interest for him. Dunno

The best incentive would be $500K per game played ($15.5M total) and an extra $2.5M if he plays all 17. That would be $18M and do the same for the next two years. Guarantee the first $7M.

So that is games played? Still seems like a lot for a DB with one INT last year

Yes, games played. He missed 5 last year and was hurt playin from game 6 on forward.

There are very few incentives for DBs. Can't do INT because he can't control where an opposing QB is going to throw. Same for passes defended.
He's getting $7M base this year and he's not going to play for that. As much as I hate to admit it, there are shitbag CB out there making $12M+. Giving him a $500K per game incentive would be paying him in the top 15. If you wanted to really crank him up, offer him $250K per game and $1M for every INT and $250K for every Pass Defended. Might be paying him $30M.

Then I'd offer JC the same deal.

The kicker is that the deals are for 21, 22, 23.

Really, really bad idea. Coming from a coach that is surprising.

If you pay him by the interception, he is not going to cover, he'll be playing the ball only to get more receptions.

He'd rather get the $500K per. He'd never go for the INT gig.

Jackson might be a different story. He a natural ball hawk.

Gilmore is at practice but has not participated.

Word is that he will not participate until he gets a new contract. Problem is that the Patriots will not discuss a contract until he has full medical clearance (Which he hasn't gotten) and he shows that he can play at full speed.

Do not expect anything to happen until September. If JC and Mills can handle their end of the job, expect BB to send Gilmore to the NFC.

According to 98.5 FM this morning. Gilmore wants three years $50M with $30M guaranteed. That's before he takes the field.

Yikes, those numbers are awfully high for the Pats. Is he thinking they are the Cowboys?

In a conversation BB was asked about Gilmore.

Bills response, "The rules have changed from the past."

Gilmore's agent was called and said that Gilmore would be on the field if he was paid. Then he was asked if Gilmore was healthy enough to play and he said he was.

The reporter asked if Gilmore was faking the injury and the agent said, "Of course not."

The reporter said that it sounded like gilmore was just holding out and using the quad injury to not show up.

Scott Zolack says that the rules did change this year and that if a player has an injury he must be paid. BB can keep Gilmore on the PUP for 6 weeks and then he has to take the field if he passes his medicals. Then he said that there is a level of mistrust between some agents and BB.

In my opinion, Bill would be wise to get rid of Gilmore and stop playing his game.

Even with the changes, can you trade an injured player?

I'm with you. Package Gilmore with a couple nice complimentary pieces like Gunner and a DL that aren't going to make the team anyway. Get a legit WR.
