If what you propose is true and if Jackson can a # 1 I agree that does not bode well for Gilmore. If it pans out that way and BB can find an NFC team willing to give up a second round pick, pull the trigger.

I do question how good Jackson can be.
JC might be the best #2 in the league. That does not automatically grant success as the #1 - covering all the #1's in the league.

I agree, and he is very young and athletic, I feel he might be able to time will tell.

The Boston media follow everybody and tonight they all thought it was another Gilmore backdoor remark. Remember when he said he was selling his house? They all think that this Gilmore saying that he wants some attention before camp.

He's reacting to the listing of top paid players at all positions that was done last week. Because he's only making $7.5M this yer, he wasn't on the list of CBs. If his agent isn't calling the Patriots, no one should expect BB to call him. If Gilmore isn't using an agent, then he'd best call Bill and stop the tweets. No sense in pissing off the guy who has control of the wallet.

Historically, BB doesn't fold to player pressure. Tom Curran made great points on Boston Sports Tonight last night.

1. Stephon Gilmore played 11 games in 2020 and was out for 5. That's 1/3 of the season.
2. The Patriots did him a favor and bumped his salary in 2020 and he agreed to take it from 2021.
3. He's 31 and all of the top CB in the league pay wise are all under 27 and their big contracts were their second contracts, not the third.
4. He had surgery in the off season to repair a torn quad. The same quad that was the reason he missed games in 2020.
5. BB has always said, "It's good that you can pass a physical. Now play football and show me that the injury won't affect your play."

FInally #6. If Gilmore doesn't show up to camp he will be fined $40,000 a day and $90,000 for every preseason game.

Assume he doesn't show up at all. Missed practice is 44x$40,000=$1.6M + 3 preseason games 3x90,000 =$270K. That's nearly $2M off his $7.5M plus not getting into game condition which would mean he'd miss at least two regular season games.

Mankins, Wilfork, Seymour, Branch, Law were traded late in their careers when they demanded money. BB doesn't screw around and cave in to these types of extortion games. BK predicts that Gilmore will be playing in Arizona.

I don't disagree with any of that, but I also feel he is still the cornerstone of this D. And this D depends heavily on his ability to cover and WR one on one. Can Jackson do that? We don't know and it's risky, not to say BB won't take the risk.

I could even see BB trading both him and Stidham.

We all know this is perfectly within BBs wheelhouse to make a "risk" like this.. His tweeting probably didn't help his cause at all in BBs mind and moves the needle even closer to him being sent packing

I can't disagree and as BK pointed out he is on the wrong side of 30 with an injury.

Not quite... BB rarely "just shows the door" but instead cashes in "at the door" for some value, sometimes a lot, sometimes a little. If Gilmore has the value he thinks he has, BB will get somebody to pay the Pats for that value.

Well yeah BB gets something in return for sure but still shows the guy the door out of New England

I'd like to add that the CBA precludes a team waiving the fines. Once fined, he's lost that money for good.

"Cajuste originally joined the NFL as the 101st overall selection in the 2019 draft, but failed to make much of an impact for the Patriots early on in his career: after undergoing surgery on an injured quad during the pre-draft process, the West Virginia product had to open his rookie campaign on the non-football injury list. New England decided against activating him, forcing him to spend his first season as a pro on the sidelines.
Two years into his NFL career, Cajuste has therefore yet to appear in a regular season on preseason game for the Patriots."

Cajusty is 25 and it's been 2 years since his Quad surgery. We don't know Gilmore can play!

Patriots announced last night that they will discussing a new contract for Stephon Gilmore and that it will be done by training camp.

In other words, the Patriots and Gilmore have been quietly talking and have a contract framework that will need tweaking. My guess? Gilmore will sign for 3 more years. Pats won't go any longer.
