Why take the points if they didn't convert the 4th down? Win either way without the added ST play.

I think I get it. Why kick back to them? If they get a return for TD, they can then go for an onside kick. Here they just take the ball over on downs and took a knee to end the game. The only bad thing that could've happened, I think, is if the 49ers would have fumbled that snap to Smith. No?

kick it back? Pozz, you're better than that. Safety means Niners get the ball... Hawks had to punt it to us

I'd assume he just wanted to keep from having another ST play. Don't risk injury when the game is already won. Very odd, but doesn't really matter.

yeah i dont understand that. it would still be a two score game.

we are more likely to fumble the snap on the kneel down

Yea but if you fumble it on the return it'll be in our territory and while it's super unlikely there is a scenario where you could fumble the return, Seahawks get a quick TD, get the onside kick, and kick a FG to win the game.

Declining the points and kneeling down is actually the less riskier move.

Either move pretty much wins the games though.

Is the ball just downed then if the kicking team recovers it on those? Even still why run a play that risk injury if you don't have to?

because it puts you up by 2 scores and seals the win no matter what

bonehead move by harbs sorry

Onside kicks also have a lot of high impact collisions, why risk injury?

Unbelievable amount of whining today.

Pozz probably is too tired. He knew that but overlooked the rules somehow

More likely to muff the kickoff than fumbling. I liked the move.

Disagree.

There was a chance when it went to review that it couldve been overturned by the refs and first down.

2ndly, we could have fumbled the snap on the kneel down.

Those are almost more likely to happen then us muffing the punt kick off. Them scoring a touch down. then them getting an outside kick recovery and THEN trying to make a FG to win it

My thought is that you never take points off the board when it is going to put you up by 2 scores. But we still won the game so I'm happy. I'm sorry for you guys who lost money on that.

They cannot onside kick it. They have to punt it

Did they change the rule? It used to be they could either punt or kick. If they kick I don't see why they can't go for an onside kick. Either way, you're putting people at risk and this game was pretty brutal. Harbaugh doesn't care about my spread.

you dont even return the punt
just let them kick it to no mans land
then you kneel down on the first play
