Trouble with using that game as an example is that the Bears were seen as the more physical team and the 49ers were the "finesse" team. This time around we're the physical team, more so than the Packers. I remember that game though, it was great.

I used that example in response to Crimson's comment below

"I generally think the team from a cold climate has an advantage in that type of weather"

Niners were from the warm climate and whipped the Bears' ass.

Carlos Rogers - DB - 49ers

According to 49ers DC Vic Fangio, CB Carlos Rogers' hamstring injury "is not as bad as originally feared."

Per Fangio, Rogers will "try" to practice on Thursday after missing Wednesday's session. Rogers appears 50-50, at best, for Sunday's Wild Card game in Green Bay. If Rogers suits up to man the slot, he'll be doing so in sub-zero temperatures.

Carlos Rogers - DB - 49ers

Updating an earlier item, 49ers CB Carlos Rogers (hamstring) was held out of Thursday's practice.

Speaking earlier Thursday, DC Vic Fangio said Rogers would "try" to practice. The 49ers' slot corner is shaping up as a potential game-time decision for Sunday's antarctic Wild Card tilt. Rogers' absence would be very bad news for a defense tasked with slowing Jordy Nelson and Randall Cobb.

Eddie Lacy - RB - Packers

Eddie Lacy (ankle) practiced in full pads Thursday.

It's the first time he's practiced on a Thursday in nearly a month. Lacy is ready to rock for Sunday's Wild Card tilt with 49ers after escaping last week's NFC North championship game without further injury. He's going to find the sledding much tougher against San Francisco's stout run defense, however.

I don't know how hamstrings work in the cold but wouldn't have a adverse affect? Rodgers already struggles at times, and now with a bad hammy in the cold won't be be more susceptible to being beat?

San Francisco's Rushing Attack Will Determine the 49ers Fate Against the Packers | Bleacher Report

Great read on why we should focus on the run game, I especially think we need more Hunter than Gore. Gore is N-S where has Hunter can exploit the edge with his speed. This article shows the edge is where the Pack have trouble stopping the run:

Some exerts:
"Three members of the Packers front seven graded out above average versus the run, per PFF"

"Things could get ugly for the Packers when the 49ers run to the left side of the formation. Matthews has been ruled out with a thumb injury, and Gore averages 5.4 yards a carry off of Staley’s backside."

The windchill is going to be nasty. This is the kind of temps where frostbite starts in a few minutes. Players and fans need to take this very seriously.

Phuck. If the pass rush is not there, we are screwed. Rodgers will tear us apart in sub zero temperature.

In sub zero climate it is almost impossible to get a grip on the ball. It will form a very slick surface from being frozen. It will be very hard to catch the ball as well.

Doesn't each team get to have it's own set of balls for the game? Something like 20-30 per team. Where do they go once the game starts? Will they be heated during the game when not on the field?

I don't know RV, but I hope you're right.

Maybe this will make Rodgers over-confident.
