Before you toss the idea out the door, hear my 3 reasons.

A, Franchez has played there before with Pittsburgh and was actually very good over there (1340 innings, URZ/150 16.2).

2, we have more guys that can play second than who can play third. Theriot, Burriss, Arias all 2B, but none are reliable everyday at 3rd. When Franchez returns, the only 2 guys you can send down are Arias and Gillaspie. Arias has been playing like he is here to stay and is the most reliable of the bunch at 3rd in a pinch.

D, if Gillaspie continues to struggle and Culberson continues to tear it up, they could switch. Gillaspie down, Culberson up. Franchez at 3rd, Craw SS, Culby 2nd, *Belt 1st. Franchez playing third gives the Giants more flexibility with Pablo out, and could resurrect his Giants career. He shows he can play 2nd/3rd still, he may earn himself a new ML contract.

But before all, he needs to throw a damn baseball!

A, 2, and D ?

MY "HF" alert didn't go off (but maybe the batteries are dead).

You're kidding right?

No way Freddie goes to 3rd...if he's healthy enough to play he goes to 2nd. Who knows if he'll even have the arm for that?

I'm guessing sf was posting from a smartphone.

Always this.

My concern as well. His arm at second will only be tested on DP's and ground balls to his right. Why put the strain on his arm almost every play hit to him?

If the pivot and throw is tough on him now, then he can't play 3B. And, anyway, I bet you we see Pablo back from the DL before Freddy.

And I might even argue that Freddy throwing side arm to first from second more often would put more stress on his shoulder than throwing over-hand to first from third.

At least that's how it went for me.

He'd throw sidearm a lot from third base, too. Both coming in on bunts and squibbers, and whenever he cut a ball off moving towards the middle of the diamond. He'd probably have to hug the line in order not to be forced to make the long off balance throw from the foul line, which would open up the 5.5 hole.

I'm the exact opposite. It still hurts to throw overhand, but doesn't hurt at all to throw sidearm.

Bochy touched on this subject in his pre-game show. Sounded skeptical that Freddie would be able to handle the side-arm throws when coming in on balls. He said something along the lines of, "we'll look at it and make sure all the boxes are checked off".

Freddy at no position for a while.

Freddy Sanchez having MRI on lower back, which also flared up in spring. "It's another setback," Bochy said.

Methinks Freddy is not coming back.

Freddy has been a real inspiration, overcoming his club foot as he did in childhood. Could be that it is catching up to him - I would have to think there would be significant alignment issues if one leg is shorter than the other.

Why the Giants gave him a new 1-year contract (for 2012) before the 2011 season is one of the great modern mysteries. Sigh.

Freddy is a better Ray Ray to me...both got hurt and injuries lingered longer then a bad case of the clap, only to come back and then promptly be put back on the shelf for other bullshit injuries that somehow all need months to recover. But the very little you see of them on the field, they bust out like all stars at their position. Frustrating. Marco, I am still shaking my head about the extension.
