That's not fair to Diaz. It's bullshit. If Benoit can't get the job done then find someone who can. We are half way into the season now and Benoit has had a large enough sample set (22 games) to get a feel for what he has this year, and it ain't much. He needs to be removed from 8th inning responsibility.

I was yelling the same exact thing. You do not pith the kid more than 1 inning. I know physically he can do it, but big league hitters adjust even from just watching him from the dugout. I said it was wrong even before the homer. Agreed that one was on the manager.

You've got a point... Diaz is young, a rookie and just pitched in 3 of the 4 games against Bmore... To leave him out there 2 straight innings was setting the youngster up for failure...

It just proves the losing culture of the Mariners is still strong. Other teams would have demoted Cishek and let someone else take over the closer role or let Cishek work his way back to it. The Mariners? Whatever. He's a warm body and that's good enough.

This franchise's history of kicking games late and losing the way they do is unexplainable. I'm really beginning to think they are cursed. The players, managers, GMs change but the results don't. That Mariner fan feeling just stays the same. Maybe it changes with new ownership but we are looking at year 40 of the franchise and only 4 playoff appearances.
