Love the signing. Now we know Read is off the trade block. What's w all of the increase of salary? I thought we had to shed salary and make trades?

This one doesn't kick in til next season so it doesn't affect this year's cap. Everyone expects the cap to get a pretty big bump next summer

Good point. So does this mean Schenn is next hopefully?

Read took a discount, he could have gotten paid in UFA.

Great deal

I hope he can continue to be a plus player and also step it up a notch to 30+ goals. Then he'll be a huge bargain at $3.625 million per.

Hopefully not, he has alot to prove before that takes place! Time to live up to the hype or move on, we've been hearing about is upside, now lets see it before snyder takes out his check book.

Schenn also is on the cap for something ridiculous like 3.1 million ANYWAY due to incentives, so even if he gets paid 2 million a year his cap hit drops.

30+ goals is asking a lot of Matt Read wouldn't you say?

not really, he had 24 his rookie year and 11 last year in 42 games (21 for full season). in his third year to ask of him to score 7 more goals than his average is not over shooting any expectations, he is one of the few that looks good in preseason.

That's understandable.

I think he's a good player to have, like a 60 points a year type of guy.

To me, Read is like a younger, more defensively responsible version of Briere who has yet to fully display his offensive prowess. He's still averaging 23-24 goals a year and looked right at home on the top line with G in that last preseason game. He can definitely shoot that puck though. His shooting percentage is right at 15.4% through 121 games and that's from the 2nd and 3rd lines.
