I see they've given up trying to get an elite goalie and are just trying to load up on solid dmen to compensate, no? :P

he may still be.

Parent seems a little expensive for the rights to talk to someone for 11 days.
Seems like a good deal for Nashville.

as a flyers fan, i hope they get this done. i could care less about giving up parent though. a young player with back problems. marshall seems to have more upside.

My take? He gets signed rather easily/quickly and the Flyer's still get the goalie they need.

The Pens did the same with Malone a few years back and he signed a ridiculous deal if you ask me. I think he would be a fool not to test the FA market but that is just my take.

How do you know what you want till you see what someone will give you. The market value wont be set until the FA process starts so he has no idea what he could command, considering a lot of teams are probably looking for D help.

the guy has an agent. his agent knows how much he will get probably down to 100k within the price. also, there are things other than money. being in a good city, having fans in your building, being on a winning team are all things to consider. hartnell and timmonen did the same thing and they are probably getting more than what they are worth although that is probably what they would have gotten in free agency.

I dont doubt he could sign, but I wouldnt be surprised either way. I can't see a benefit in signing before FA starts for the player.

I hear ya puck, but I think it's a risk worth taking. The Flyer's do have a couple of kids (Marshall, Svret) ready to make their way onto the big squad in Parents' vacant spot.

...and if the kids don't work -- Krajicek is Parent part 2 and Bartulis, though not incredibly agile, can hold his own defensively.

so...salary cap anyone???

I apologize Pix....I don't have the energy to find the thread and quote awaz and his mad cap skillz, but according to him and others...the Flyer's will have no problem signing him, give Coburn a raise AND get a quality goalie.
