no way i would pay turco 4 mil. 2.5 max.

Turco's not going to get a big deal (3-3.5 maybe) because of the amount of goalies available this summer, the shitty year he had last year, and his age.
That being said, he could be the steal of the summer for someone.

Good luck to Hamhuis in Philadelphia. He is a fine player and I'm sure he'll do well.

It's obvious the Preds are clearing up space, UT. You ready for a big acquisition?

i understand why they wanna shake things up a bit (they've been on the cusp of being a contender, just never quite up to the bar), but why this offseason? other than say, kovy, who is out there that sounds good? and for some reason i don't see kovy heading south again. it just seems that the pool is dry this year...but there's no doubt they're clearing TONS of space.

sidenote: i'm really excited to see the 'fringe' teams taking action (ie preds, blues, etc.) it's a nice change.

I think Turco in Philly would be awesome. Combine Pronger's stretch passes with Turco's incredible puck handling abilities (seriously, Marty Brodeur eat your heart out) and you're going to have a real tough time forechecking against that team.

Most goalies don't just drop off the face of the earth in their mid-30's, some continue to get better. Sign this fool to a nice, small one year deal and watch the magic.

yep.. the more i think about it the more i like the thought of turco backstopping this team.. great point about the puck movement too, teams with a real strong forecheck hurt the flyers big time, especially early in the regular season when carle, coburn and 3rd pair thought 'clearing passes' to the slot were ok

i dont understand the young prospect goalie fetish that everyone is having.. ya it'd be nice to get a young prospect that could pan out in the next couple years.. but the flyers need to win now, next year or the year after at the latest.. pronger is going to retire and we'll be on the hook for his 4.9mil, timmo may retire as well, next season gagne, carter, giroux, and leino all need new contracts, giroux and leino will get huge raises.. the flyers dont have the time to waste on a goalie getting used to the NHL.. ya he could come out and be fantastic, but odds are it'll take time to adjust..

carey price was supposed to be the next patrick roy.. 5th overall selection and was supposed to 'save' the canadiens 3 seasons ago.. now look at them.. in net they are in turmoil.. traded away the better goalie and letting ride on a goalie that might as well not wear a glove cause he doesn't catch anything in it

goalies are pretty much a crapshoot.. and i think homer knows that, hence the d-corp he's been assembling since he got here (timmo, coburn, pronger, carle, and hamhuis were ALL acquired via trade by homer).. might as well go with a goalie who has done something with his NHL career..

IMO, you dont risk it all on an unproven rookie when you have a team like the flyers have.. its worked in the past (niemi and ward) but its very rare.. sign a vet like mason or turco and rely on the team to win the cup, not what you hope is a standout rookie goaltender

if you take into account what it would take to get bernier to philly, plus he's a rookie, i dont want him.. the kings aren't going to give him up lightly..

same goes for schnieder, except he wont cost as much considering the nucks have luongo

i just dont see why you would assemble the team the flyers have and then risk the season on a young, unproven goalie.. it makes no sense.. you can have all the potential in the world, but thats all it is until you prove something..

ummmm....... what makes you think pronger and timmonen are retiring any time soon? some people act like 35 is 50. pronger put up one of his better seasons points wise and can still log 30 minutes of ice time when needed. i think pronger will play out his contract. he is still a top 3 defenseman in the league. why would he just all of the sudden retire? look at lidstrom. the guy is like 40 and still very effective.

also, bernier could possible come into the league and be better than a guy like turco. not to mention costing less. unlike other young players, goalies do not need to adjust to the physical style of the nhl or anything. they need to just do what they did in the ahl.

i'm not acting like 35 is 50.. i'm acting like 35 is 35 and in 2 years will be 37.. they are old.. retirement i'm sure isn't far off.. and regardless, a drop off, maybe slight but still present, is there..

barring some serious GM wizadry from homer (not out of the question) i think the flyers best chance in the next few years is going to be this season.. even if you dont wanna look at retirements, look at salaries..

richards 5.75
carter 6ish
giroux 5ish
leino 4ish
pronger 5
timmo 6
hartnell 4
hamhuis 4
carle 3
gagne 4 (if he takes a paycut next season)

that would be 46 million on 10 guys.. obviously they wont keep all of them, but look at the value you're getting for these guys this season.. and its not like the flyers have prospects coming up that they can have on rookie contracts like they have with giroux and leino for next season

homer got pronger under the 'win now' mentality.. i dont see why he'd get a prospect goalie to play on his 'win now' team.. it doesn't make any sense

i think his goaltender for the future, until he shows he cant be, is ericsson, who doesnt need to be/wont be, ready for probably 2/3 more seasons

my point is, there is a chance, possibly a good chance that bernier is already better than a guy like turco. also, you free up your cap problems in the near future by trading a guy like carter. they pretty much have to trade a forward anyway to get a goalie like turco if they sign both hamhuis and coburn.

also, i would trade hartnell in the near future with jvr filling his role and that leaves room for giroux. who knows what leino will get. is he a 4 mil a year guy or a 2 mil a year guy? who knows. he looks impressive although so did hartnell for 1 series and we saw the regular season he had.
