All twelve teams on their current schedule where unranked and are a combined 1-20 versus ranked opponents, the 1 win was in OT...they are a combined 11-13 versus P5 teams....sounds real special.

Alabama is currently on an 81 game winning streak over unranked opponents...that's special.

No one is trying to put UCF on the same level as Alabama. There isn't a team in college football in my opinion that can hand with what Alabama has done since they got Saban.

Being in different "divisions" would also mean no bowl games against G5's would the bowls even want them? way less money for the G5 Division
They could still play some bowl games but the top 4 or 8 teams would be in the playoffs. That would be a huge hit and I doubt those playoff games would make that much more money than the regular bowl games plus the current playoff money.

There isn't any money for that. Look at the television revenue of P5 leagues vs G5 leagues. If the G5 leagues could separate and actually make money they would have done it years ago.

Take the Big 10 vs the MAC...The new MAC TV deal works out to...$670,000 per MAC team per year. The Big Ten deal is $51 million per year per team. MACtion is great...on a Tuesday...against reruns of Jeopardy. BTW...the MAC deal is the best current G5 deal.

The G5 exists in a parasitic relationship to the P5...there is no demand for a G5 playoff. IF the G5 were interested in playing for championships, most of them would still be FCS teams.

You are pretty much making my original point for me which was that everything college football does isn't to find the best team in football but instead how to make the most money.

What i mean is bowl games against p5 teams. You dont see the FCS getting into FBS bowl games why would it be any different should the split happen?

The real question is would bowl sponsors WANT to have G5 only bowl games and if so how many? something tells me that they would lose out on more money because the g5 vs p5 bowl matchups help draw eyeballs and butts in seats

They haven't been able to avoid playing a complete schedule of unranked opponents in the other year.

2008 Utah 13-0 wins over #24, #11, #14, and #4
2009 Utah 10-3 losses to #11, #4, #18

2009 Boise State 14-0, wins over #14 and #3
2010 Boise State 13-1, wins over #13 and #23, loss to #19

2009 TCU 13-1 wins over #12 and #18 loss to #6
2010 TCU 14-0 wins over #24, #6 and #4

VS

2017 UCF 13-0 wins over #22, #16 and #7
2018 UCF 12-0 wins over # nobody

See the difference.

Lots of good information here. Thanks for going through the trouble. I see the difference.

I gotta ask though. How is that UCF's fault?

because they dont reschedule or even attempt to when they have a p5 ooc game lost due to hurricane, and they schedule teams that were only good for 1 season no clear history and then bitch that they went back to being exactly who everyone else knew they were. GT UNC to name 2.....

Well there are already some G5 vs G5 bowl games like the Bahamas Bowl. Even if they didn’t do a full split, the guaranteed spot in a NY6 bowl game is a huge money maker for whatever conference gets it and would be just as profitable, if not more profitable than a playoff would be for the conference.

That is the point im making lol i think some wires are getting crossed. G5 doesnt want a full split and if they were to have their own playoff i dont see anything short of a full split being done.

That is my opinion.

NY6 doesnt need G5's to make them successful.

I’m looking at it more of a NCAA tournament (P5) and NIT tournament (G5). They can keep playing while having separate tournaments just have all the left overs play their meaningless games. A full split will crush the G5’s into what the FCS is viewed as.

Well that wouldnt be a split so much as adding an invitational tourney for x-z ranked/placed teams

I cant see that happening

the g5's dont want this though......

Listen, if they were to split off they would be exactly where they are now, except with no one to bitch about holding them down/back.

the big bad P5 are the reason they bla bla bla. That is all it is.

True.

I'm just sick of the G5 teams complaining. They should just put up or shut up. Put your money where your mouth is. The P5 isn't going to give you anything. If you don't like it, make your own league.

You would eliminate all the bowl games where they play a G5 team and then you take away the money that they make from the current playoffs because why should the P5 share money with the G5 when they have their own playoffs? @TheDayMan or @WizardHawk i believe knows better how much would be forfeited.
I don’t know a number, but a lot. The G5 schools are free to break off from the FBS, but the amount they stand to lose is why they don’t. It’s pretty much that simple. It’d just make another FCS league where most of the teams are left needing to schedule at least one game at a big time P5 school every year so they can get the payday to keep their athletic budgets not too in the red.

I had no idea the P5 shared playoff money with the G5. This is news to me.

We both agree that a separate tournament for G5, no matter how they structure it, is financial suicide to those programs.

LOL it is very similar to the retard AD from UCF declaring national champs, its easy to scream and bitch and moan but they dont want to scheedule people just like this whole Florida thing where they were offered a 2-1 and UCF AD says no. Its not because of home and home, its because he doesnt want to schedule true powers for his team but wants to get invited to the post season as if he did.

IT wont end. This is just boise state all over again except the AD and fans are even more retarded this go around

For some reason I want to say it’s something like 50 million. But I’m not sure. It has been discussed quite a bit here in the past.

I could see that. What I am saying however is that if you schedule a good team a few years down the road and they aren't ranked by the time you play them, that really isn't entirely your fault.

How is that UCF's fault?

How is the fault of the teams who scheduled harder is the real question. If you put a team like UCF in, then you are excluding a team that did schedule tougher.

As a fan of a G5 school. I look up to schools like Boise St. and UCF who have at least made enough noise to be considered in the conversation.

You have no idea what it is like to be a fan of the UTEP Miners wondering how schools like them enter Division I football and reach the level they have reached so much faster than UTEP has.

They may not be all the way there and may never get their but their programs are leaps and bounds ahead of UTEP.
