"Mile High Report's Tim Lynch says that Broncos WR Montrell Washington "continues to shine."

In reference to the small discussion about TIm Patrick and a replacement stepping up yesterday;

The local radio dudes also mentioned this guy and how he has popped in practice thus far. But keep in mind, the Broncos haven't put pads on yet either..that means no press "bump and run" type coverage, this little speed demon is getting free releases, so we'll see if he continues to "pop" in practice once they are actually practicing and not just in shorts and shells..and also don't overlook that he is 5'10" 170.

Kyle Philips in a similar situation - been running the Titans D in circles so far in camp, all the local guys have been impressed in his shorts & shells work this summer

Sanders back to Denver? A reunion makes sense
Forgot he's still out there too ain't he? That would be a more realistic fit for what they would likely have used Patrick for than Fuller.

Juedy and Hamler can both do 'lid lifting' role, Patrick was much more the short/intermediate guy. Sanders could easily fill that

ESPN's Jeff Darlington reports the NFL "is appealing for an indefinite suspension that would be a minimum of one year" for Deshaun Watson.

The MMQB's Albert Breer added that the NFL "positions Watson’s behavior as the most egregious it’s ever seen" in their brief for the appeal. Watson was initially given a six-game suspension. With his base salary set at just $690K, the loss of game checks means next to nothing when compared to the $240 million contract extension he signed with the Browns. For this reason, the NFL is also considering adding a fine to Watson's punishment. The CBA gives commissioner Roger Goodell the power to hear the appeal and change the length of the suspension. He can also designate someone else to hear the appeal. Multiple reports have indicated that the NFLPA will sue the league if Watson is suspended for a season. Things will only get messier if this back-and-forth is taken to court.

Now it will get interesting because if Goodell extends it and Watson sues the NFL, does he have to serve any of the suspension until the lawsuit is settled? I honestly think it would be hilarious if all of this appeal and lawsuit stuff makes it to where he can play this entire season and then he has to take the suspension next year instead. That would defeat the entire purpose of the $1,000,000 base salary this year and a 6 or 8 or 10 or season long suspension will hurt a lot more next year when he's due $46,000,000.

That certainly could factor into the overall decision to fight it or not.

It'd be an interesting case study. Does he have grounds to sue within the CBA? Or is it pretty clear that the commissioner's final decision on appeals is in fact final? Does a court have standing to supercede a CBA ? It's entirely possible a judge would toss this, but equally possible it last months or longer

from what I've read today, Watson's only recourse will be to sue, because the CBA is definitive in that Goodell (or whomever he appoints after Sue Robinson's decision) will get final say, which the NFLPA signed off on in 2020. That judge will simply point to the CBA, and tell Watson sorry about your luck, but your union agreed to this exact scenario.

So Sue's verdict will lead to Watson's suing the league, which they'll say they always had the power to overrule Sue so Watson's sue suit won't mean squat.

Agree.
So does the NFLPA sue on behalf of themselves?
Can Watson sue the NFLPA for not acting on his best interests ($$$)?

The very first sentence seems to be wrong and the word "not" should not be in there, if I am reading this right. I think he means to say that he CAN increase the penalty because of everything else that follows. Unless I am reading it wrong. I have had a couple tonight, but not that much, so I feel somewhat confident.

I really think what will end up happening is the NFL will increase it to 10 or 12 games and then Watson probably won't sue and the NFL will at least look like they somewhat care and save a little bit of face. Honestly once it gets to 8 games this will probably be a lost season for them and it might not matter at all how many games it is since Watson hasn't taken a meaningful snap since 2020 and he'll need some time to knock the rust off. The people that should have the most interest in the suspension going longer are the Texans because the Brown were clearly already planning on this being a lost season anyway with the way they structured his contract, but it's the Texans that gain the most if the Browns suck.

NFL offered 12 games as a comprise and Watson and the NFLPA turned it down and rolled the dice, so I think the NFL sticks with what they suggested to start with.

I think it means that Goodell can't change the arbiters decision, so he has to file an appeal himself in order to increase the suspension

But he can increase the suspension.
Well..yes, but not until the league (him) appeals, where now he is not just only the commissioner, but also the overseer of the appeals, and as that guy, he can increase it.

What a shit show...I dunno how the NFLPA agreed to this when a big sticking point during the last negotiations was stripping Goodell of some authority

NFL wasn’t giving up that control, but gave in on other things. Think of it like this, you own a business and your employees want to strip you of being able to fire employees unless an outside arbiter agrees with the owner they should be fired. Unions have been able to get in some roadblocks but the end an employer can/will fire someone if he’s determined to. Most state they can terminate without giving a reason.

If what was offered as a compromise ends up being the maximum anyway if you lose an appeal, it's not rolling the dice to refuse the compromise.

From a game theory perspective, Goodell shouldn't hand down exactly what was offered before. If Goodell cranks it up considerably, and Watson doesn't win in court, the next guy will be a lot more eager to take the offer.

I worded it badly, originally the NFL wanted a indefinite suspension with a one year minimum, that is what I expect Goodell will suspend him for.
