Pegula wasn't kidding when he said that winning a Cup in the next few years is a top priority, and he won't let anything get in his way.

As a lifelong Sabres fan, I am still trying to get use to all this.

Like I said earlier Garth tried. That's all a fan can ask. The Isles made a very good offer. If he signs with the Sabres good for them. Getting the pick back is just a bonus as far as I'm concerned.

Not only has his value never been higher — it’ll likely never be higher. His stats were padded by some soft minutes as part of a defense corps that had better defensive options. As a result, Ehrhoff was used primarily in an offensive role. Granted, he rocked this role, but it will be a difficult task to shelter him on a team with less depth that’s paying him more to do more.

And, speaking of less depth, Ehrhoff might have trouble reproducing his 50 points once he’s divorced from a powerplay unit that boasted two Art Ross trophies, a Hart, a Lindsay, and a Selke. There’s a 100% chance his next team doesn’t have that kind of firepower, meaning his numbers will likely decline.

The only team I can see with the cap space to bring him on where his numbers might stay up is the Wings. Even then, who knows how long it'll be until he falls off?

I really don't see the reasoning behind giving him a big, long term deal. He's going to be 29 in a few days, so it's not like he's young with a bunch of untapped potential. He had a bunch of 20-30 point seasons before three 40+ in a row, all on teams with huge firepower. He was dubbed Errorhoff in San Jose for a reason.

I think he's going to be this year's Brian Campbell.

That said I think he would look great next to Lidstrom (yeah, no shit Sherlock) and I wouldn't mind taking a run at him but not for anything longer than a two year deal (and only because we have cap space coming out our anus).
