Wow do I disagree. Especially about Bardem and Brolin who were both excellent in their roles. Brolin's intensity was pitch perfect for the Halleck role and was in stark contrast to the way Patrick Stewart played the role which was fine but fairly non-descript. Bardem also was great in his limited role as Stilgar. Momoa was his usual charming self. I guess you could say that Bautista was his usual over the top self but that role kinda requires it.
I felt bad that we didn't get to see more of Brolin's Gurney and Bardem's Stilgar in Part 1. I LOVED Brolin's take on Gurney.

I agree...but we still get more Batista going forward.

Brolin did a very good job

It's great that the sequel was greenlit, but b/c the studio waited to see how Part 1 did, the soonest they'll be able to put out Part 2 is late 2023 (assuming no set backs...). Had they committed to the sequel in advance, they could've shot parts of both movies at once (ala Lord of the Rings), saving the studio serious money and ensuring that they could get the sequel out in a year or so.

Didn't they say from the beginning that there was going to be a Part 2?

They planned on one, as the beginning of this movie literally said "Part One", but like ill said, the studio didn't greenlight Part Two until after they saw how this one did in the theaters. B/c of their lack of faith, we'll have to wait until 2024 for the sequel.

you don't think Timothée Chalamet is well known?

the dude has been everywhere outside of the Marvel world these days

and I think the casting is perfect. Known names all over the place
Chalamet is definitely well known but this is still a step up for him. I actually haven't been able to get my wife interested in this movie and I do think part of the reason is that Chalamet looks like he is 15. But thats just my household. I'll watch this eventually but on my own time when there aren't sports to watch.

oh he 100% needed a defining role. He has been an up and comer for a while, but I couldn't name an actual character he has played until this movie...but that is kind of how most younger actors are...he already has a pretty good list of movies to his name though.

there's a scene where Duncan Idaho says to him "you been working out? put on some muscle?" and squeezes his arm and goes "nope"

I got a good laugh out of that one

Yeah. I thought that Brolin was on the best castings they did. His mix of affection for Paul and intense seriousness about everything was wonderful. I wish they had time to show playing an instrument like he was in the books.

The good news is that we aren't done with Stilgar or Gurney

It's pathetic how long it takes to make a movie... Really is

Most movies don't take that long.

Given the amount of visual FX needed for Dune : Part II , I think its to be expected.

The movie ended in the middle of the story.

There is no part 2 ...it's the conclusion of the movie.

They haven't even finished the script for the next movie yet. They were hoping for a part 2, but I don't think they really thought it would happen.

I've got access to free 4K films so I watched this yesterday.

They have to be setting things up for at least 2 more movies because not a hell of a lot happened.

Interesting and it looked and sounded wonderful but really slow.

Just saw it at the theatre. Was going to see on Imax but the 97 year old great aunt wanted to go so we went to a standard.

Very well done! Not for folks who just want brain dead action.
Visually spectacular, but slightly less so than the director's Blade Runner 2049 imo. Great cinematography and fxs regardless. The acting was generally quite good. Skarsgard was excellent as Barron H.

The one big negative is that it should be probably 4 movies just for the first book, or a 12 hour miniseries. The length dictated that some clunky exposition dialog had to be used with characters saying shit they should already know or would have been discussed well beforehand.

There were some weird moments in the desert where the visions blended with real time that were a little confusing. That might have been intentional? If so, I don't think it worked.

I can't really think of any other complaints! 8.5 to 9 outta 10 from me.
