I have a bad feeling about this film being too rushed.

Dune is one of my favorite novels partly because of the incredibly well developed depth and details of the entire galactic landscape. IMO, to do this story justice requires 5-6+ hours of screen-time. Dune should be a series of films such as The Hunger Games quadrilogy or The Lord of the Rings trilogy.

I like the fact that they're going to make this 2 movies rather than trying to cram the whole Dune novel into 1 movie.

The cast is loaded. Isaac, Brolin, Momoa, Zendaya, Bardem, etc., If this fails it'll fall on the writers and director.

The casting of Duke and Paul have that hawkish look that the books say they have. They're going to make the Baron more real and less of a caricature. That'll be a notable improvement over the last 2 tries at Dune. I got no problem making Liet-Kynes a woman. It's clear they're doing it just so there will be more women in prominent roles, but that role is one that could easily fit a woman.

I still want to know who will play Feyd. That's a crucial role.

Given the patriarchal nature of the Fremen and the empire in general I don't think it really makes sense within the story for the leader of the Fremen to be a woman. Women are often treated like property in Fremen culture.

Making Kynes black would make sense, especially since Zendaya is playing Chani and she is black. Making him a woman kind of conflicts with the lore here unless they're just going to change that too. Also heard that Stilgar is now Chani's father which is also goofy.

As far as Feyd goes, just bring back Sting. Or for backup maybe Shia LaBeouf.

I agree that there is no issue with Kynes being black. That isn't a real consideration.

However, I grant that Fremen culture usually seems wives as property. However, the Kynes isn't the usual fremen wife. Kynes is an imperial ecologist, not a natural fremen. Kynes isn't merely a seich leader or razia leader. Kynes is almost a god, a spiritual leader. And the fremen spiritual leaders (until Paul) ARE women. The character is VERY spiritual in nature and that is why I think she could easily be converted into a woman.

I hadn't heard that Stilgar is Chani's father. That IS a little difference that could make a big change. But think of this...when the original reverend mother was dying, Chani, was supposedly next in line to take the water of life to be the reverend mother. From that angle, there is no difference. It could work.

Sting doesn't look younger Batista. That's the problem.

Agreed...
I just found out this information and am relieved by it. This story deserves 5 to 6 hours to be told properly. I am much more geeked for this project now that I know it will be two films.

Never seen/read Dune but I generally know what it is just from pop culture. But as someone with no real background in it, that trailer has me pumped like I'm some kind of Dune fanboy. That looks totally badass and its got one hell of cast

Does it really matter? Really just an exposition character in the book.

And, IMO, Denis Villaneuve is the perfect director to do it.

Great interview of the cast.

Chalamet says that he only did 2 green screen shots in the entire movie which is kinda incredible.

Most of the filming is done in the Jordan desert.
